Many people struggle with depression and the question I get most, is "I hate feeling like this, how do I get it to stop?". Depression can often times be multifaceted with many factors playing a role. Things like negative thoughts, personal beliefs, guilt and even shame about being depressed all play a key role. There is hope though! Psychotherapy is the number one tool that is used to address depression and it can help in as little as one session. People begin to feel a sense of relief that someone understands what they are going through. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to establish goals and to work to change cognitive distortions that often lead to depressed feelings. We all know what anxiety is. We have all had anxiety from time to time. It's a normal motivator for change. The question I get the most is "ya ok, I know what it is but how do I deal with it" One of my favorite techniques to deal with anxiety is grounding. Grounding takes you out of a future oriented mind frame and places you squarely back in the present. Once this happens, the brain is able to regain control of reality and begins to automatically calm down the systems going haywire. Breathing slows, heart rate begins to normalize, and the feeling of dread gradually subsides. If you like this tip, like and follow me for more!

I am a licensed counselor in Colorado and I focus on anxiety and mood related disorders, personal wellness, self-esteem, challenges related to life transitions, and addiction disorders. Additionally, I focus on coaching to modify lifestyles and behaviors as it relates to weight loss, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and encouraging self-awareness through motivational interviewing.
