I share the most important message I want sexual assault and trauma survivors to know: there is always hope for healing. I discuss how many survivors feel broken and hopeless, but emphasize that healing is absolutely possible through doing the work, feeling difficult emotions, and surrounding yourself with a supportive team. I encourage survivors to peel back layers of shame and self-blame, and remind you that if I and my clients can heal, you can too.

I’m inviting sexual assault survivors to join our book club support group meeting on Monday, March 16th, where we’ll discuss shame, self-blame, and consent. We’ll be diving into chapters from my book Unbroken: A Survivor’s Journey After Sexual Assault and exploring whether what happened was your fault. If you’re struggling with these topics and feeling alone, I encourage you to show up and get the support, understanding, and direction for healing you deserve. The session costs $40, but financial barriers are not a reason to miss out—just message me directly.

I talk about how I used to blame myself for my trauma responses—like freeze, fawn, fight, or flee responses, and coping mechanisms such as eating disorders and body dysmorphia. I discuss how self-blame is a common cycle among trauma survivors and offer compassionate strategies to break free from it. I challenge you to consider whether you’d blame someone else for their trauma responses, and remind you that if your trauma began in childhood, you were an innocent child who didn’t deserve what happened. I encourage you to release self-blame, hold others accountable for their actions, and begin your healing journey today. ❤️

I share a personal story about an assault I experienced while walking in Arcadia, California, and the healing journey that followed. I discuss how we can move forward in life while staying aware of our surroundings, without falling into hypervigilance. As a trauma specialist, I offer the message that healing means keeping moving forward, feeling our emotions, doing the necessary work, and maintaining healthy awareness of what’s happening around us. drop workshop

Do you want to learn how to work on yourself this year?

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I need to work on myself,” you’re not alone. It’s a thought that often arrives when we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or just know that something needs to change. But what does “working on yourself” actually mean? It’s not about fixing flaws or chasing an ideal version of you. From my perspective as a therapist, it’s a gentle, ongoing process of building awareness, healing old wounds, and learning to relate to yourself and others in healthier ways. Self-improvement is a lifelong process that involves self-awareness and new discoveries about who you are and what makes you unique. The goal is to become a better person, not a perfect one.

The journey of self-improvement can feel confusing, especially with so much advice telling you to hustle harder or just think positive. Real growth is rarely that simple. It’s about understanding your inner world, not just trying to control your outward behaviors. It requires curiosity, self-compassion, and sometimes, a little guidance. Self-improvement can lead to great rewards, but it can also be messy and painful at times.

If you’re ready to explore what it means to truly work on yourself, you’re in the right place. Remember, the journey is unique for everyone, and making small, consistent changes can lead to significant results over time.

For many people, the end of December brings a relentless wave of pressure. You see the advertisements for the massive balloon drop, the perfectly curated images of friends laughing with a glass of champagne, and the endless questions about your plans for the big night. It can feel like the whole world is ready to celebrate, dance, and ring in the future with unshakeable optimism.

But if you are feeling a knot in your stomach instead of excitement, I want you to know you aren’t alone.

New Year’s Eve is often marketed as the ultimate celebration, but for many of us, it stirs up anxiety, stress, grief, and emotional exhaustion. The expectation to have the “perfect” night can feel heavy, especially if this past year has been difficult. Whether you are navigating trauma, recovering from loss, or simply feeling socially drained, it is okay if this night feels hard.

In this blog, we’re going to talk about why these feelings happen, offer you permission to step back, and provide practical self-care tools. Most importantly, we want to remind you that prioritizing your mental health is the best way to start the new year.
