Survivors Against Su***de became an obsession for me after my mother died by su***de. The driving point of it is to educate family and friends in the healing process after they’ve lost someone in such a tragic way. We are a nonprofit that hopes we never get used. Meaning, in a perfect world, there would be no su***des. However, we live in the real world and the reality is that these events are going to happen. We hope to assist others in rebuilding their lives and finding hope in the storm.

Surviors Assisting Survivors is a nonprofit org designed to assist survivors (family and friends) after the event of a su***de. Our goal is to make the healing process as easy as possible by letting survivors know they are not alone.

My name is Nelson Thomas. I’m currently enrolled in the Master’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Lamar University, with a projected graduation of Fall of 2025. I’m currently seeing clients in both the College Station and Brenham offices of Brazos Valley Mental Health and Wellness under the supervision of Sherry Haferkamp-Watson, Psy.D. I take clients of all ages and backgrounds. My hours are flexible to accommodate most individual schedules to include both day and evening hours.
Being a disabled vet who served 19 years as a firefighter/EMT in the Air Force, I have witnessed the impact of individuals who have struggled with PTSD, anxiety/depression, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse. As a result, my passion for helping others resulted in becoming the founder and Executive Director of Survivors Against Su***de (non-profit organization).
We all desire to be genuinely seen, heard, and understood. We all strive to have authentic connection and recognition by others. When you are experiencing life’s challenges, and there can be quite a few, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. It may appear as a path you must walk alone. This is the furthest from the truth. I am here to assist you in coming home to you. I am here to guide you back to yourself. Don’t let traumatic situations hinder your ability to establish or sustain relationships. Don’t let what has happened in your past derail your future. I will guide you from the darkness of your past into a brighter tomorrow.
