March is Social Work Month. At St. Edmonds, we believe in advocating for our residents. The social work team does this in a variety of ways. Here is what Lisa and Kim had to say about what social work month means to them:
I have been a social worker for almost 40 years and love my work. I have spent most of my career working in nursing homes and loved working with the elderly. But I wanted a change and applied for the job at St. Edmond's. I was a little nervous about working with children with disabilities but found they are so welcoming. I also continue to be amazed about what the children are capable of doing on a daily basis. I have enjoyed watching them grow, as well as welcoming new residents to St. Edmond's. The theme for social work month is social justice. Working at St. Edmond's we are always advocating for the rights of our children at school, in courts and in the community.-Lisa DeJoseph
Social work means a lot to me. This career is my avenue to fulfill my passion for advocating for people with special needs and their families. The best part of my day is when I get to spend time with our residents. They bring joy to my life. They teach me to cherish human connection and the meaningful things in life even something as simple as smile, a wave, or holding a toy. They also taught me how unique and valuable special education, occupational, speech, and physical therapy for people with various disabilities. I am honored to serve the young people of St. Edmond's Home for Children.-Kim Cowley
We thank our social workers for their continued support for our residents and families. Happy Social Work Month!
