Health don’t just happen! Our Cells produce the energy for our bodies to function.

If our cells don't have the right building blocks and the right fuels - they can't function and that effects our epigenetics. That results in the body starting to show symptoms and in many cases that eventually develops to diseases.

For example, a study published in the journal Circulation in 2017 found that following a healthy lifestyle, defined as not smoking, maintaining a healthy body weight, engaging in regular physical activity, eating a healthy diet, and limiting alcohol consumption, could prevent up to 80% of coronary heart disease cases, 50% of stroke cases, and 40% of cancer cases. Another study published in The Lancet in 2018 estimated that unhealthy diets and physical inactivity were responsible for up to 20% of all deaths worldwide.

Some diseases are linked to low energy production in cells. For example, mitochondrial diseases are a group of rare genetic disorders caused by defects in the mitochondria, which are responsible for producing energy in cells. These defects can lead to decreased energy production, resulting in a wide range of symptoms including muscle weakness, fatigue, and neurological problems. Other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are also associated with impaired energy production in cells. However, not all diseases are directly related to low energy production in cells, and some may have other underlying causes.

New Research on Omega-3 Fats and Weight Management
Omega-3 fatty acids are fats found in foods such as fish and nuts.

They play many important roles in the body.
New research shows they impact weight management by influencing the formation of new fat cells—and that’s a good thing.

There are antenna-like structures that extend from the surface of the cell known called cilia. They are designed to pick up and send cellular signals. Defects in the cilium are known to be associated with obesity and insulin resistance, but the reasons have been unclear.

Researchers discovered that the cilium can sense omega-3 fats in the diet and signal the stem cells in fat tissue to divide and turn into new fat cells.

Without the signal to initiate the formation of new cells to store fat, existing fat cells become larger. It’s better to have more small fat cells than fewer, larger fat cells.

The larger the cells are the more likely they are to be linked to insulin resistance, other health conditions, and to the release of toxic contents.

This research opens up a new and exciting area of study involving omega-3 fats, and re-emphasizes the importance of eating a diet that includes healthy fats, especially the polyunsaturated fats you know as omega-3s.
