According to the 2024 RAND report "America's Military and Veteran Caregivers: Hidden Heroes Emerging from the Shadows," military and veteran caregivers under age 60 are nearly 4x more likely to meet the criteria for depression than non-caregivers.

NAMI Buffalo & Western New York, in partnership with Veterans One-Stop Center, is pleased to be offering NAMI Homefront: a safe, confidential space for these caregivers to come together for 6 weeks, find community, and learn skills to better support their loved ones while maintaining their own well-being.

Classes start Sept 16 & will be Tuesdays from 6-8:30 pm @ 1255 Niagara St #230. Registration required / call or email to secure your spot.

We’re getting ready for our first annual NAMI Walks & second annual Dance with Somebody party tomorrow, but our friends, The Waildogs, will be performing at Nietzsches TONIGHT, with proceeds benefiting our organization and work! We can’t wait to see everyone this weekend, and are appreciative of all the support 💚

Why do we walk?

We asked our team at NAMI Buffalo to write down and share their personal reasons and the responses were powerful.

✨ “I walk because unity for mental health is important.”
✨ “I walk because I support with all my heart and soul those who are struggling.”
✨ “I walk to honor my own journey and to teach my children it’s okay to talk about mental health.”
✨ “I walk because NAMI has been an incredible resource for me and my family.”
✨ “I walk for those who can’t, or who are too afraid to.”
✨ “I walk because everyone deserves access to care, regardless of their situation.”

NAMI Walks is more than just a walk. It’s a statement. It’s hope. It’s community. And it’s for everyone impacted by mental illness, whether directly or through a loved one.

Join us, walk with us, and help break the stigma.
