The University at Buffalo’s Department of Family Medicine and the Primary Care Research Institute had such an eye-opening evening at the Amherst Schools Family Wellness Night! We got to speak to many families about sugar content in common foods and drinks as well as what Opioids do to different parts of your brain!

Our Community Engagement Specialist, Jennifer Serniuk, and Research Assistant, Marissa Camacho, as well as our undergraduate students Lamisha Ashan and Meghan Mistretta had a blast doing hands-on activities with families.

🍎 Community, Health, and High School Spirit! 🍎
We had an incredible time at Emerson High School for the Parent Resource Fair! Our Department of Family Medicine Outreach team was on the ground in Buffalo connecting with families and sharing some vital wellness tips.
We loved seeing everyone engage with our interactive stations, including:
Heart Health: Checking blood pressure and sharing tips on keeping those numbers in the healthy range!
Nutrition Deep Dive: Breaking down nutrition labels and showing the “sweet truth” about sugar content in everyday drinks.
Healthy Choices: Chatting about smarter sodium choices and the amazing benefits of dietary fiber.
A huge thank you to the Emerson community for having us. We’re so proud to support our Buffalo neighbors in building healthier futures together! 🏙️

Shoutout to the incredible interdisciplinary work happening at the UB Primary Care Research Institute! 🎧✨
We’re thrilled to share UB Department of Family Medicine faculty, Dr. Amanda Ziegler, is mentioned on a recent podcast episode of The Starting Gate. The episode highlights an upcoming project focusing on health interventions for teens, exploring the use of technology in primary care (mobile health platforms with remote monitoring in connection with their doctor).
We are proud to partner with innovators like Dr. Natalie Davis, CMO of PreventScripts, to bridge the gap between technology and primary care.
