📊That number on the scale can be deceiving. While it gives us one piece of information, understanding your body's actual makeup provides a far clearer picture of your health journey and progress! When we talk about body composition, we look at a few key metrics that tell us much more than just total weight:

✅Lean Body Mass (LBM): This is everything in your body except fat! Think of it as your 'fat-free' weight, including your muscles, bones, organs (like your brain and heart!), and all the water. A healthy LBM is crucial for metabolism and overall function.
✅Body Fat Percentage: This shows the proportion of your total weight that is fat. While fat is essential, being within optimal ranges helps reduce various health risks.
✅Visceral Fat Level: This is a big one! This is the highly active, potentially dangerous fat stored deep within your abdomen, surrounding your vital organs. Unlike the fat you can pinch, visceral fat actively releases inflammatory compounds. A higher level is strongly linked to metabolic and cardiovascular disease risk.
✅Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR): This simple calculation (waist circumference divided by hip circumference) is a powerful indicator of where your body stores fat. An "apple" shape (more fat around the waist) is generally associated with higher health risks, largely due to that visceral fat. The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests an increased risk for women with a WHR above 0.85 and men above 0.90.

📉These metrics offer insights that can truly guide your health efforts, showing you how your body is changing from the inside out, regardless of what the scale says!

Have you ever wondered what your body is really made of? It's more than just the number on the scale! ⚖ Body composition gives you a much clearer picture of your health by looking at the proportion of fat versus fat-free mass (that's your muscle, bone, and water). 💪Understanding your body composition is key because it can reveal health insights and track your progress in ways that simply weighing yourself can't.

At Wellness With Elizabeth, we use a few smart methods to help you get this clearer picture:
➡Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA): This quick and easy method sends a tiny electrical current through your body. Since water conducts electricity better than fat, we can estimate your body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, and total body water.
➡Waist and Hip Circumference: Don't underestimate these simple measurements! They're powerful indicators, especially for assessing visceral fat – that deeper, more concerning fat stored around your organs. A higher waist circumference or an unfavorable waist-to-hip ratio can signal increased health risks, even if your overall weight is considered "normal."
