Do you continue to suffer symptoms even though you have received treatment? Are you frustrated because you have sought help for your health issues, but have failed to receive information or improved health?
It may be that the root of your problem is a genetic SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism). Read more about this below.
I just returned from attending a 4-day intensive training in Phoenix learning about SNPs, Methylation Functional Testing, and nutritional support from Dr. Mark Harris (a medical doctor, naturopathic doctor, and quantum physicist) and we are pleased to announce that we now offer this service at Snake River Holistic Health!
Basically, DNA methylation regulates gene expression by activating or silencing genes. This process plays an important role in cellular function and impacts various biological systems. DNA methylation is vital for normal cellular operations, but abnormal patterns can have detrimental effects.
These changes, or SNPs can be ones you are born with or ones that are altered due to lifestyle, exposure to toxins, etc. SNPs are divided into two main categories:
1) Linked SNPs do not reside within the genes and do not affect protein function. However, they do are associated with increased risk for getting a certain disease or having a particular drug response.
2) Causative SNPs do affect the way a protein functions. They are also correlated with a disease and can influence a person's response to medication. Causative SNPs come in two forms:
• Coding SNPs which are located within the coding region of a gene, change the amino acid sequence of the gene's protein product.
• Non-coding SNPs which are located within the gene's regulatory sequences and change the location, timing, and/or level of gene expression.
But the biggest take away is that an aberrant methylation pattern can result in gene misregulation and are linked to diseases.
Short-term impacts include errors in gene expression that may lead to mild but observable changes.
Long-term, these changes can accumulate, leading to severe health complications such as neurologic disorders (Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Alzheimer’s, Autism, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, and more), systemic diseases (stroke, liver disease, Crohn’s, Colitis, Irritable Bowel, Leaky Bowel, High sensitivity to mold, and more) and cancer progression.
If untreated, disruptions in methylation can lead to persistent health issues. But when recognized and nutritionally supported, health restoration can occur.
