I was reminded by a friend yesterday to stop apologizing. I hadn’t realized the words, “I’m sorry” had even come out of my mouth.

My subconscious response was to excuse myself as a preventative measure to avoid bias feedback around my tone or intention. How many of you can relate?

She reminded me that I didn’t need to be sorry, that I am worthy and deserved to take up space. I love her for that reminder.

As people of color we’re in a position to set the boundaries we’ve always deserved and require to exist as citizens.

Your vote is a means to articulate the space you deserve to take up.

I’m grateful for friends like her, they’re a dime a dozen and irreplaceable.
