Medicine making day to restock the chaga mushroom and valerian root tinctures I use regularly with the best local organic vodka from as the base solvent.
I love to use locally grown or forged herbs as much as possible as the quality and flavor is much better compared to alternatives; extract solvents are no different! The end result with this vodka is a smooth tincture that doesn’t distract from the aromatics and taste of the tinctured plant. The organic certification is an awesome added bonus, too 😉

Wintergreen berries! During the coldest months, these yummy berries are actually at their peak for flavor and texture. They have an almost apple-like texture, light sweetness, and of course the classic wintergreen flavor.
Have you seen this delicious minty treat yet? I was lucky enough to come across some before the snowstorms covered the land in a thick blanket of pillowy snow. ☃️

Plant sales and swaps are an amazing way to connect with the herbalist community and pick up some new medicinal herbs for your garden! 💚 Foraging for medicinals is amazing, but can bring up feelings of uncertainty with the identification process since many plants have lookalikes that can test even the most experienced forager!
Buying from a reputable local source is a great way to get familiar with new plants without having to wonder if you’ve in fact identified the correct type!

🌿Ostrich Fern🌿
A spring forager favorite, fiddleheads! These young, tightly coiled fern fronds are harvesting during spring.

🌱Take care to only cut one or two fiddleheads from each plant so it can continue to grow. Pick those that are tightly wound closer to the ground.
🌱Always reference a field guide or other trusted identification resource if you’re unsure while foraging. Ostrich ferns have toxic lookalikes, but having a guide will help you feel confident in your identification!

Among one of the first flowers to emerge in spring, dandelions fill our lawns and meadows with luscious yellow dots of sunshine! From providing early nectar to awakening bees as well as a wonderful harvest for foragers/herbalists, we have lots to thank dandelions for!

Both medicinally beneficial and nutritious, dandelion is a powerful herb! It’s also a great “beginner” herb due to how easy it is to identify and how versatile it’s preparations and uses are!
