At just 31, C faced the harsh reality of a cancer diagnosis and the constant pain that came with it. Frequent admissions to the palliative care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital became part of her life, each visit a battle for comfort. Amid the struggle, she found unexpected relief through music therapy.⁠

“I have been having music therapy with Josh for over a year now, as I have been on the palliative floor many times,” C shared. “Each session is different, sometimes I relax into a sleep, sometimes I sing along and am active in the session. Music therapy with Josh has consistently been a form of release, a way to disconnect from my pain and to connect back with myself.”⁠

Music helped C reconnect with joyful memories—concerts, family, and friends—and brought peace during moments of stress.⁠

“Many times after music therapy, I feel reconnected to myself and inspired to continue connecting through music on my own,” she said.⁠

Some good looking friends with their new music bucket hats! Ready for summer fun! One of our friends LOVES to laugh and to make others laugh! When she pulled her hat down over her face, it was perfect! Such a great sense of humor! I am so grateful to spend time with these fine people- and look forward to weekly Music Connections starting back up next fall!!!

At MBMT- it’s very important to me that everybody feel welcome and accepted just as they are! I thought of this as I made “birthday” goldfish for a friend in our Music Connection group who doesn’t like cookies or cake. I strive to make all in music therapy groups and sessions feel seen, celebrated, honored and fully supported! 🎉🎶 (& it goes beyond the music)

Happy Monday!

In addition to being a board certified music therapist, I became a SoulCollage® facilitator just about a year ago! It’s an intuitive and creative process where you cut out images and create collage on 5x8 cards. It’s a fun, relaxing, no pressure way to take time off from stress and the busy world!

When I moved to the New England Region American Music Therapy Association, I discovered the joy (and surrender) of group singing! It’s a tradition in this region and one I have grown to love.
I was lucky to meet Patrica Norton of Juneberry music (she has wonderful VT offerings! https://www.juneberrymusic.com Check her out) this year and connect with the group singing experience locally.

This music retreat sounds incredible and Patricia was telling me more about it yesterday. It’s more than music! I thought of my music therapy colleagues, my music education connections, sound healers, music practioners, my Courage friends and ALL those seeking connection with self and others through the medium and power of music and song!!!
