At just 31, C faced the harsh reality of a cancer diagnosis and the constant pain that came with it. Frequent admissions to the palliative care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital became part of her life, each visit a battle for comfort. Amid the struggle, she found unexpected relief through music therapy.
“I have been having music therapy with Josh for over a year now, as I have been on the palliative floor many times,” C shared. “Each session is different, sometimes I relax into a sleep, sometimes I sing along and am active in the session. Music therapy with Josh has consistently been a form of release, a way to disconnect from my pain and to connect back with myself.”
Music helped C reconnect with joyful memories—concerts, family, and friends—and brought peace during moments of stress.
“Many times after music therapy, I feel reconnected to myself and inspired to continue connecting through music on my own,” she said.
Josh supports people like C and others at St. Paul’s Hospital, thanks to Music Heals and its generous donors.
