I hope that everyone is enjoying their day today! I have been reading some posts on other pages from doulas that I feel I must address. If a doula suggests a homeopathic remedy to a client who is my client, under my care, I would like to be notified and consulted with, before my client begins taking said remedy. The same with aromatherapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. The same with pharmaceutical prescriptions. By definition a doula does not do anything medical -- which means that she doesn't diagnose, nor does she prescribe. That action is out of a doula's scope of practice. Doulas, please keep this in mind when considering what you suggest, and how you suggest things such as homeopathy, aromatherapy, etc. to your client. Your client's will thank you for that advice and so will their providers. Approaching recommendations in this way shows respect to the providers who are taking the best care of their clients as possible.
