Here’s composer and keyboardist Øystein Sevåg with a few words about our Kickstarter project.
We’re grateful that Øystein was kind enough to donate a few copies of the super-rare, original, translucent vinyl pressing of his first album, Close Your Eyes & See to the campaign.

We were grateful to see our Kickstarter project included in SPIN this week, as part of a larger look at Windham Hill at 50.
Our campaign has now reached nearly 65% funded.
It’s been heartening to see the response so far, and to see how this new A Winter’s Solstice project, the documentary, and the gathering in Berkeley are all beginning to come together.
You can read the piece here :

As Windham Hill Records turns 50 this year, the label’s epilogue is coming into focus with a long--in-the-works documentary that’s nearing completion, a newly announced Bay Area concert and celebration and a crowd-funded project saluting... You may recognize these images as the covers of A Winter’s Solstice I & III. They’ve been part of the story for decades.
When we began this Kickstarter campaign, John F. Cooper returned to more than 40 years of archived photographs and found the original full-frame transparencies, preserved and untouched. Seeing them again, the depth and color are still remarkable. They are now being made available as archival prints as part of this Kickstarter.

A glimpse into the story behind the music, from the upcoming documentary by Tal Skloot, A Quiet Revolution: The Story of Windham Hill Records with Barbara Higbie and Dawn Atkinson.
This week, the project was also included in SPIN as part of a larger look at Windham Hill at 50. There is now just one documentary premiere ticket remaining through the Kickstarter campaign.

SAVE THE DATE: November 1, 2026
As part of this 50th anniversary year, a gathering is being planned at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. Many of the artists from this community will be part of it, and it will be a chance to come together around the music again. More details soon-
This concert is one piece of a larger moment that also includes the A Winter’s Solstice Celebration project now underway.

As the 40th anniversary of A Winter’s Solstice approached, we began to wonder how to mark it.
The idea emerged of bringing Windham Hill artists together again to make a reunion album, and the response from the artists was simply, Yes.
Since Windham Hill no longer exists as a functioning label, the question became how to make it happen. Kickstarter offered a way to do this independently, and to invite those who have listened to this music over the years to help bring it into being.
The response so far has been heartening—thank you.
We’re now approaching the halfway point.

These first days have meant a great deal.
It’s been wonderful to see more than 200 people join in, and today Will drew the name of one of those early backers. The winner will receive a mint copy of A Winter’s Solstice, which he will autograph. We wanted to share this moment with you. The winner has been contacted directly.
If you’d like to be part of it, you can join us here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1043382748/a-winters-solstice-celebration
