Pleasant Lake Lodge, Inc was never just a business—it was a calling born from personal experience, deep compassion, and decades of dedication to care.

In 2008, Janine Tucker-Kummer had already retired from a long and successful career in adult foster care. Over the years, she had opened, licensed, filled, and sold several AFC homes throughout the Cadillac area, always guided by one mission: to provide quality care that felt like home. Her reputation for excellence followed her wherever she went.

But when her own mother suffered a stroke and needed more care than could be provided at home, Janine did what she knew best—she came out of retirement and opened another home. This time, it was personal.

With the help of her family, she purchased a foreclosed property and transformed it from the ground up into a 20-bed adult foster care home. That home became Pleasant Lake Lodge Inc. South Location. It opened in 2009 and filled almost immediately—proof that not only was the need great, but that families trusted Janine to deliver the kind of care their loved ones deserved.

The Northern District Fairgrounds are BOOMING with lights, music, and laughter as we officially kick off our long-awaited Spring Carnival with the legendary Skerbeck Family Carnival! With over 70 years of experience, they’ve rolled in with rides that are fast, fun, and perfect for families, thrill-seekers, and everyone in between!

Let’s be real — it’s been YEARS since we’ve had a ride company this good… but thanks to our new board members, there’s been a major shift. We’re showing up, boots on the ground, working hard, and absolutely kicking butt to bring the community the carnival it deserves!

BREAKING NEWS: Pleasant Lake Lodge to add a Resident Goat Yoga Program starting this summer!

Residents will soon be stretching their way to wellness alongside a certified team of therapeutic goats — complete with mini yoga mats, tiny sweatbands, and post-session carrot juice.

Today we celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day — and what better time to honor the heart behind Pleasant Lake Lodge.

Our story began in 1986 with one woman’s vision: Janine, a devoted caregiver with a heart for helping others. What started as her passion grew into a legacy of compassion and community.

In 2009, her daughter stepped in to carry that vision forward — and Pleasant Lake Lodge of Cadillac was born. Today, our 45-bed assisted living home continues to serve with love, offering personalized care to elderly individuals and veterans who’ve given so much.

Family-owned. Community-driven. Compassion-led.

Thank you to our residents, their families, and our incredible staff for being part of our story — and to every mom-and-pop business keeping small-town values alive.

Big congratulations to Bethany on her promotion to Assistant Manager — now officially overseeing all three Pleasant Lake Lodge locations!

From day one, Bethany has brought compassion, leadership, and just the right amount of sass to the job. Whether she’s managing the day-to-day or giving a signature eye roll that says “I’ve got this,” she keeps the team laughing and the energy high.

We’re so proud to see her step into this new role. Her heart for our residents and dedication to our mission are unmatched — and now, all three of our homes get to benefit from her magic.
