(April 2, 2026) - โThe President of Shaita Angels FC, Ms. Benita W. Urey, has publicly reacted to the recent decision by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Appeals Committee to reduce her suspension from five years to three years.
โ
โIn an official media release issued on April 2, 2026, the LFA confirmed that while the Appeals Committee upheld findings of match manipulation, it ruled that the initial five-year sanction was โmanifestly disproportionateโ for a first offense. The revised punishment bars Ms. Urey from all football-related activities and stadium access for three years.
โ
โThe case centers on allegations that Ms. Urey distributed money to players to influence matches involving Paynesville FC during the 2024/2025 season. The Appeals Committee stated that its decision followed a review of evidence and testimonies from those involved.
โ
โHowever, Ms. Urey has strongly questioned the ruling in a response shared on social media. She challenged both the length of the ban and the basis of the accusations.
โ
โโYโall stop the mockery and showmanship. In the rules, it says 16 months ban for match fixing, so where did you get three years?โ she wrote.
โ
โMs. Urey rejected links to match-fixing involving a club she is not officially connected to, questioning the fairness of the process. She also signaled that a more detailed response is forthcoming, potentially escalating the matter.
โ
โMeanwhile, the LFA maintains that the decision stands unless overturned by
โthe Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as debate continues within Liberiaโs football community.
