âś…Arthroscopic (Are-thraa-ska-pic) surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that utilizes a small camera to look inside a joint, diagnose problems, and in many cases treat them at the same time.
Instead of making a large incision, the surgeon makes a few very small cuts (usually less than a centimeter each) and inserts an arthroscope, a thin tube with a tiny camera and light at the end.
This projects images of the joint onto a screen, allowing the surgeon to see inside the joint with great clarity. Special miniature instruments can then be inserted through other small incisions to perform the repair.
âś…Common joints treated with arthroscopy (are-thraa-ska-pee):
* Knee
* Shoulder
* Hip
* Elbow
* Wrist
* Ankle
âś…Typical conditions treated with arthroscopy:
* Torn meniscus or ligaments (ACL, rotator cuff)
* Cartilage damage
* Loose bone or cartilage fragments
* Joint inflammation (e.g., synovitis)
* Impingement syndromes
* Some cases of arthritis
âś… Advantages over open surgery:
* Smaller incisions → less scarring
* Less pain after surgery
* Lower risk of infection
* Shorter recovery time
* Often performed as **outpatient surgery** (no hospital stay)
