I saw this post the other day talking about psychobiotics— specific probiotics that support the gut-brain axis and mental health.

And naturally, I did what I always do…
I went looking for the research.

Because here’s the thing:

👉 My search still shows that there are NO FDA-approved psychobiotics for mental health.

And honestly? That can feel confusing.

Like…
Do we wait?
Do we ignore it?
Do we risk trying something that isn’t “official” yet?

But here’s the perspective shift that changed everything for me:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration doesn’t approve supplements the same way it approves medications.

So waiting for “approval” in this space…
might mean waiting forever.

Meanwhile…

We already have:
✔️ Human studies on specific probiotic strains
✔️ Growing research on the gut-brain axis
✔️ Clear connections between inflammation, the microbiome, and mood

This isn’t theory anymore.

It’s just… early and evolving science.

And if I’m being really honest—

I didn’t have the luxury of waiting.

When my daughter was struggling…
when our home felt like constant fight-or-flight…
when medications came with side effects that made things even harder…

I wasn’t looking for perfect.

I was looking for support.

And what I’ve learned since then is this:

💡 You don’t have to wait for FDA approval to start supporting your nervous system.

You can:
• Nourish your gut microbiome with psychobiotics today
• Support your body’s stress response
• Use tools that are backed by emerging (but real) science

All while staying informed and intentional.

Because supporting the gut-brain axis isn’t about replacing medical care…

It’s about adding another layer of support
in a world where so many families are still searching for answers.

💛 If you’ve ever felt stuck between
“this isn’t officially approved”
and
“but I need something to help now…”

You’re not alone.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first psychobiotic designed to treat anxiety by addressing the gut-brain connection. This groundbreaking treatment leverages the power of probiotics to restore balance in the gut microbiome, which plays a significant role in regulating mood and mental health.

Psychobiotics are a class of probiotics that target the gut-brain axis, a pathway that links the digestive system to the brain. Research has shown that an imbalanced gut microbiome can contribute to mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. By restoring healthy gut bacteria, this psychobiotic aims to reduce anxiety symptoms, offering a novel, non-pharmacological approach to managing mental health.

Clinical trials have demonstrated that the psychobiotic significantly reduced anxiety levels in participants, with effects similar to traditional anti-anxiety medications but with fewer side effects. Experts believe that this approval marks a new era in mental health treatment, where the focus shifts toward restoring balance in the body’s internal systems to improve psychological well-being.

While psychobiotics hold great promise, experts caution that more research is needed to understand their full potential and long-term effects. Nevertheless, this approval opens the door to alternative treatments that could help millions manage anxiety in a safer, more natural way.

I talk to so many parents who feel like they’re constantly walking on eggshells…

Trying to prevent the next meltdown.
Trying to say the “right” thing.
Trying to stay calm… when everything feels chaotic.

And underneath it all is this quiet thought:
“Why is this so hard… and why isn’t anything working?”

I’ve been there too.

What I’ve learned—both personally and as a PA—is that behavior is often the last thing to change.

Underneath it?
There’s usually a stressed nervous system… and often an overwhelmed gut-brain connection.

That’s why I’m so excited to be part of the Calm in the Chaos Summit, hosted by Jami Midcap Kirkbride.

I’ll be sharing how we can start supporting what’s happening beneath the surface—so we’re not just reacting to behavior, but actually helping our kids regulate.

And we’re partnered with so many other experts over the 4 days all sharing their knowledge to help parents find the right tools for more calm in the chaos.

Because there are answers. And there is a better way. I invite you to come explore it more with us next week!

Some kids don’t just feel emotions…

They feel them deeply.
They react quickly.
And they struggle intensely.

And most parenting advice?
It wasn’t designed for kids like this.

So if you’ve been feeling like nothing quite fits…
You’re not alone.
And you’re definitely not failing.

You’re raising a child with a beautifully complex, sensitive system.

The Calm in the Chaos Summit (hosted by Jami Midcap Kirkbride of the Calm Connection Parenting Podcast) was created for families just like yours (and mine!)
