Speech sound development... what to expect and when. A child's speech may be delayed if he/she has not developed these sounds by the end of each given age.

Note: This post is meant to serve as a general guideline. Many sounds have a time range for mastery, and there can be variation among norms depending on the source you view. Less questions, more comments! Rephrasing your questions as comments is a simple and effective way to encourage more communicative responses from your child. Follow your child's lead and comment on what they see, what they are doing, or what they are interested in.

Check out our💥top toy picks💥 for teaching speech sounds, receptive language, expressive language, AND social communication skills!

Our favorite therapy toys all have one thing in common: NO BATTERIES! We recommend skipping out on the fancy toys with multiple buttons, noises, and flashing lights. When choosing toys to help support communication development, consider those that can easily be played with by you and your child together. Think “shared fun!” 🤩🤩

Sometimes, we first focus on helping children engage in early interactions and respond to their environment before they are ready to use words. This is why it is so important to meet children where they are and work at their own unique pace of development! Questions? We'd love to hear from you!
