I met my younger self on a Saturday morning

She asked if I could pick her up since she still doesn’t drive. She said the fear was inherited, rooted deep like an old family tree.

She wanted to go to Bill’s in San Jose for cheap mimosas and easy laughter. I wanted a quiet beachside cafe for a dirty chai and a green juice.

She said her dream was to see the Eiffel Tower. I excitedly told her I’ve been there and I cried when the Eiffel Tower shimmered into view from the Seine.

She told me she rents a place downtown, right in the heart of the city. I told her I own a house by the sea in Carlsbad. She’d never heard of it, but I could already see the ocean reflected in her eyes.

She excitedly told me she just landed her first corporate job and there’s even a keg in the office. I shared stories about the hearts I’ve touched since leaving corporate and following my passion.

As I drove her home, she looked out the window and whispered, “Some day”

Before parting ways I hugged her tightly and told her “I love you, you are doing amazing, keep going”
