Dr. Natasha Trentacosta is a pediatric and adult sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon based in the Los Angeles area. Her unique training allows her to care for athletes of all ages and levels of competition in the prevention and treatment of sports-related and traumatic injuries, utilizing non-operative treatment options such as physical therapy and regenerative medicine techniques as well as operative interventions when indicated. Her surgical skills and individualized attention aim to help each patient return to the highest possible level of function in sports and life. After growing up in New York City, she attended Brown University with a concentration in Neuroscience. Returning to New York, the summer before entering medical school was spent at an internship at the Women’s Sports Medicine Center of the Hospital of Special Surgery. She went on to medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center. She completed specialized training in adult sports medicine at Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group, providing sideline and training room medical coverage for local high schools and colleges, and assisting in the care of the LA Galaxy as well as Men’s and Women’s US National Soccer teams. With a strong passion for keeping children active and safe in sports and life, she went on to further training with international leaders in pediatric sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, practicing surgical techniques that are unique to the treatment of the pediatric patient. Not only did she continue caring for local high school athletes, but also had the opportunity to cover the Boston Athletic Association road races, including the Finish line at the Boston Marathon. Returning to Los Angeles, she brings a passion for keeping children and adults active and returning them back to their full potential when injury strikes. Her research interests continue in the pediatric and female athlete, focusing on injuries of shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee.

When I started Orthopaedics I never thought I would be asking about hot flashes and menstrual cycles, but as I delved into Orthopaedics and women’s health, it was obvious those questions NEEDED to be asked and had been neglected for so long in the PREVENTION and treatment of Orthopaedic injuries in women of all ages. Change is here! … pain in midlife women is not just aging. 🦴
It is hormone-related.

Frozen shoulder, joint pain, and bone loss often cluster around menopause for a reason. 🧬

This reflects hormone-related musculoskeletal changes, not coincidence.

Estrogen withdrawal alters connective tissue, bone remodeling, and muscle function.
Bone health is not just density. 📊

It is strength, balance, and fracture prevention. 💪
Hormones matter. 🌸

So do protein intake, resistance training, and mechanical loading. 🏋️‍♀️

This is explained in depth on this week’s episode of unPAUSED.

Comment POD and I will send you the full episode.

Ophthalmology – Children have a remarkable talent for launching sharp objects or microscopic particles directly at your eyes… all while you’re reacting with the graceful speed of an aging adult. A recipe for after-hours disaster. Thank you, Dr. Pilyugina!

ENT – You never know when your child will choose to celebrate his first birthday by having Dr. Shapiro extract hot-dog skin from his nose like a magician pulling an endless handkerchief from a hat.

Plastic Surgery – So far I’ve only needed advice, but I dread the day we call on his actual manual expertise.

REI – Forever grateful to Dr. Baek for fielding my constant texts during those first 16 weeks of pregnancy with unexpected recurrent bleeding. She even forced me to operate like a hand surgeon—sitting down—through the entire first trimester.

Pediatric Dentistry – I have now learned that kids break their teeth. A lot. Thank you, Dr. Lowen!

Orthopaedics – Oh wait… that’s me.

Perry Intiative 2025.⠀ ⠀⠀ Another successful year of at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center — inspiring the next generation of orthopedic innovators and future engineers! 💪🦴
This annual event brings together medical and high school students — especially those from underrepresented backgrounds — to explore the intersection of orthopedics and engineering through hands-on learning, mentorship, and discovery.
Together, we’re building a more diverse and dynamic future in medicine. 💙 This year felt extra special because my daughter joined me at the event. Watching her eyes light up as she met young women exploring careers in medicine and engineering was truly powerful.

In her world, orthopedic surgeons are (so far!) all women, even though only about 7% of practicing orthopedic surgeons in the US are female. Here’s to helping that number grow, one inspired student at a time. 💪🦴💙

Repost from Thank you to and for continuing to emphasize and highlight the urgent need for continued research, medical advancement and financial investment as we continue to improve our ACL injury mitigation efforts, particularly in women’s sports.

It was an honor and a pleasure to collaborate with the immensely talented .trentacosta.md and . Our message is loud and clear.... injury mitigation works, but only if you use the programs! Please use the scientifically validated programs at least 2 times per week. You will reap the neuromuscular reward!

Our work absolutely continues, but we cannot be successful without the unbridled support of our on-field ambassadors 🙏; coaches, parents, players, medical staff, strength and conditioning coaches and performance specialists.

It takes a village and we are all in this together, united in one goal, to continue to promote the enormous promise of sport and mitigate the risk of participation.

My success and sanity depends on my partner in this crazy life. Late night supracondylar fractures and hip fractures. Weekend conferences. 12-hour days in the clinic. didn’t choose this lifestyle, but he chose us.
