Warning ⚠️ long post alert - Wow 2yr years!!!!
This is why we started my blog because Mummy & Daddy wanted me to have Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery.
Our journey was not as simple or as difficult as some other children’s but we had to fight for it (hemiplegia is a complication) and we were scared it’s spinal neurological surgery!
Once we got our YES we can’t thank Alder Hey enough for the knowledge, support, care and love they have shown us all. I was in hospital for my 5th birthday but he had a full party with cake and a live singer 🎤 🎶
My 2yr rehabilitation didn’t go to plan due to epilepsy but we have really knuckled down the last 6mth with a new plan and I have worked so incredibly hard to strengthen my muscles and learn new skills.
We have to give the most important thank you to ABC Physiotherapy and specifically Dee Clarkson! Not only did she fight for SDR surgery with us but she has been there for EVERY high and low we have experienced since I was 18mth old and we would not have achieved on Friday what we did without her! She’s also kept Mummy & Daddy sane 🤣🥰. Dee Clarkson is one of my very best friends in the world and I love her very much ❤️
You can tell I’m 6yrs nearly 7yr old as Dee Dee is now “Dee Clarkson” 👍🏼
2yrs SDR surgery review and I absolutely smashed it🎉.
Yes there are still things I can’t do that other children can but when you compare the number of crosses ❌ to ticks ✔️ I got in my first assessment it is mind blowing. This truly has been life changing surgery!
The physiotherapist at Alder Hey who was involved in my post-surgery rehabilitation said she wouldn’t have known we lost 6mths to epilepsy if we hadn’t told her!
This isn’t the end of the story however we won’t be back to Alder Hey for 3yrs now unless there are any issues, which is bittersweet as they have been such a big part of our lives for the last 2 yrs.
We will continue to work hard for the next 3yrs so we can get even more ticks ✔️ in our next assessment 🤞🏼👍🏼.
We need to give some thanks to all our friends & family for putting up with the madness for the last two years and Aunty Jo & Aunty Jen for being our cheerleaders and supporting us all the way.
