🍂 Thanksgiving Gratitude from the Mini Minds Team 🧡

This season reminds us to pause and reflect on what matters most. So we asked a few members of our Mini Minds team to share what they’re grateful for… and their answers touched our hearts.

From small moments to big milestones, from personal joys to professional purpose, gratitude truly connects us all.

As we wrap up this season of thanks, we want to say how incredibly grateful we are for each other, for the amazing families we work with, and for the wonderful communities we serve.

Thank you for being part of the Mini Minds family ✨

✨ Your Mini Wish List Series continues today!

This season, our therapists are sharing their favorite games and activities that make the perfect addition to your family’s holiday wish list—each one thoughtfully chosen to support your child’s social and emotional wellness.

🎥 Today’s Mini Must Haves: Mental Health Therapist Adrienne is highlighting Pop the Pig and Pop Up Pirate!

🧸 What Are Pop the Pig & Pop Up Pirate?
These classic, high-energy games keep kids laughing, guessing, and fully engaged. While the goal of each is simple—feed the pig until he pops or place swords until the pirate springs—it’s the surprise moment that makes them so much fun.

🧠 How They Support Kids Who Struggle With Anticipatory Anxiety:
For children who feel anxious when they don’t know exactly what’s coming next—or who like to plan every step before they begin—these games offer playful, low-pressure opportunities to practice tolerating uncertainty.

Here’s how they help:
• Encourage flexibility by making “not knowing” part of the fun
• Help kids manage anticipatory anxiety in a safe, silly, game-based way
• Teach children that they can handle surprises—even exciting ones!
• Build confidence by allowing kids to experience unpredictability without distress
• Support emotional regulation and coping skills in real time

✨ Why They’re Mini Must Haves:
With Pop the Pig and Pop Up Pirate, the excitement comes from the unexpected pop! Each round helps kids learn that they don’t need the perfect plan before they start—and that sometimes the best moments happen when things don’t go exactly as expected.

🎁 Stay tuned each week for more of our therapists’ favorite Mini Must Haves this holiday season!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we’re sharing a wonderful insight from Mental Health Therapist Madison Miller about the power of gratitude in children’s emotional regulation!

Gratitude isn’t just a feel-good idea, it actually strengthens the brain. When kids practice noticing the “good stuff,” they activate the thinking part of the brain, calm their stress responses, and build positive neural pathways that make emotional regulation easier over time.

Madison encourages families to weave gratitude into everyday moments, such as during dinner, on car rides, or through simple conversations or drawings about things that made them smile.

And instead of asking kids the big question, “What are you grateful for?” she suggests making it more concrete: “What was something today that made your body feel calm or happy?”

As we head into the holiday season, it’s the perfect time to model gratitude, create connection, and help kids build emotional resilience from the inside out!

✨ So you got a referral for OT… now what?

Many families are told their child needs Occupational Therapy but aren’t quite sure what that really means or how it will help. That’s exactly why every family at Mini Minds begins with a free Discovery Call, and why connecting with Taylor, our Lead Occupational Therapist, can make all the difference.

During your call, Taylor will listen to your child’s story, explain what OT looks like at Mini Minds, and paint a clear picture of how your family’s daily life can change with the right support.

Here are the areas we most commonly help with:

💛 Executive Functioning
What you might see: trouble with routines, forgetting steps, overwhelm with tasks.
How OT helps: building planning skills, visual supports, and confidence.

💛 Sensory Integration
What you might see: sensitivity to textures/noises, constant movement, big reactions.
How OT helps: sensory-rich activities that build comfort, regulation, and body awareness.

💛 Emotional Regulation
What you might see: frequent meltdowns, difficulty calming, intense feelings.
How OT helps: teaching calming strategies, emotional vocabulary, and self-awareness.

💛 Reflex Integration
What you might see: coordination challenges, poor posture, difficulty sitting still.
How OT helps: specific movement patterns that strengthen motor control and focus.

After your Discovery Call, Taylor hand-matches your child with the therapist who fits them best and continues supporting your family every step of the way through ongoing collaboration with our team.

✨ In today’s reel, Occupational Therapist Ally walks us through two kid-friendly pranayama techniques that support self-regulation and emotional wellness:

🐝 Bhramari – “Humming Bee Breath”
A soothing breath that uses gentle vibration to calm the nervous system.
Great for:
• Easing stress, anxiety, and anger
• Improving sleep
• Supporting overall nervous system regulation by stimulating the vagus nerve
When to use: Anytime your child feels overwhelmed, overstimulated, or needs help settling down before bed.

❄️ Sheetali / Sheetkari – “Cooling Breath”
A refreshing breath that cools the body and relaxes the mind.
Great for:
• Reducing mental and emotional excitement
• Relaxing tight muscles
• Promoting a sense of ease
When to use: After big emotions, during warm weather, or whenever your child needs a gentle reset.

💛 These simple tools help children tune into their bodies, understand their feelings, and build lifelong coping skills.

Each week for we love sharing moments of fun and purpose outside the office and this Sunday, we were literally right outside the office! 💚

In this week’s reel, Mental Health Therapist Kennedy is hard at work rebuilding our garden beds in the backyard of our Broad Ripple house. Earlier this summer, a car accidentally crashed through our fence. Thankfully no one was hurt, but many of the beautiful plants and vegetables our Social Sprouts campers tended all summer were destroyed. 💔🌱

Now, with brand-new garden beds in place, we’re beginning the process of filling them with leaves and natural materials to build rich, healthy soil for spring planting. This means new opportunities for our families and campers to connect with nature, regulate their bodies, and build social emotional wellness throughout the year.

A huge thank you to Kennedy for spending her weekend helping restore this special space. Her dedication ensures that nature-based learning and healing remain at the heart of what we offer. 🌞🌻

Stay tuned for updates as our garden comes back to life! 🌿💛
