Athletic trainers are here to protect and support not only athletes, but also coaches, staff, and everyone involved in sport. Our commitment is to ensure the best possible outcomes in health, safety, and performance.

We want nothing more than to see you and your team succeed—both on and off the field.

On the morning of Saturday, August 2nd, a Mount Carmel high school, football coach collapsed while retrieving a football before practice at Sundevil Stadium. Three coaches and two student-athletes quickly recognized the emergency and activated the Emergency Action Plan (EAP), which included calling EMS, retrieving and applying the AED, and notifying athletic trainer Shane Condon. The coaches immediately began CPR until Shane arrived where he took over CPR. Shane and another coach rotated giving compressions until EMS arrived and assumed care.

The patient was transported to a local San Diego hospital, where he remained under monitoring for nearly two weeks following a heart procedure. He has since returned home after a successful recovery, and Mount Carmel high school looks forward to welcoming him back once he is fully healed.

A true success story showing the lifesaving impact of having athletic trainers in our secondary schools, alongside coaches and student-athletes trained in CPR, and a well-practiced emergency action plan.
