Albany Aquanauts Albany Aquanauts is a local SCUBA club in the capital region. If you would like to become a member of the Albany Aquanauts, please visit our website.

The Albany Aquanauts SCUBA Club was formed in the 1970s. Our current membership consists of over 60 divers, ranging from newly-certified to those that started diving before C-cards were even issued. Whether you have a dive buddy or are looking for one, come join us. Our club facilitates a diverse array of activities, above and below the water, all year long. Group dives extend from local waters to areas throughout New England and annual trips to tropical destinations. Some of the local dive sites include the Sacandaga Reservoir, Warner’s Lake, Lake Champlain and multiple locations along Lake George. Being situated in the Capital District, we are fortunate to be able to reach a variety of locations throughout the Northeast with only a few hours travel. The club dives the St. Lawrence (full of shipwrecks), Rockport Massachusetts (with its Atlantic Ocean marine life), and the Dutch Springs quarry in Pennsylvania (underwater amusement park). Our recent warm-water destinations have included Cozumel, Bonaire, Belize, and Curacao, to name a few. The Albany Aquanauts are also affiliated with the local dive shops and the New York State Diver’s Association (NYSDA). These groups extend our diving opportunities with the events that they promote. When not underwater, we continue to host events for fun, for charity, and for education. For fun, we have mountain hikes and kayaking trips, a picnic in July, and a holiday party in December. Charitable contributions and fundraisers have supported organizations like SUDS - Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba (diving for injured war veterans). The club has also supported DAN (medical aid and research for divers), Shark Research Institute, and other marine conservationists. Education is spread throughout the year’s calendar of events. Each spring we update our CPR/oxygen/first aid skills. We have interactive webinar presentations with DAN on a variety of topics. We periodically have guest speakers at meetings or presentations by celebrities in the diving community.

*Cassandra Here!*
Aquanauts, as some of you may already know, I'm moving away to Key Largo, Florida! To pursue my dreams of caring for our reefs, the largest reef system in North America! I will be tattooing still of course, but I will also be working with a local nonprofit in Islamorada, FL restoring Alligator reef! We will be building a new coral nursery, transplanting corals, and actively cleaning up the reefs and protecting them! This morning I spent 2 1/2 hours removing all of this trash from my childhood favorite place - Nine Corner Lake! It's a mile hike in, up the mountain! I was able to get The DEC involved and they got an ATV up there for me.
I am going to miss all of you terribly - hopefully once COVID-19 calms down, we can commence our annual picnic and international dive trips! I will absolutely be seeing you all in the summers and on those trips. I will forever be grateful for each and every one of you "random people" for accepting me and taking me into your dive family. If anyone would like to join me on a dive or two in the Keys - you can find me at Key Dives, the best dive shop in the Florida Keys! I love you all, and hope to see you again someday!

A good time was had by all at the ViaPort Aquarium - Rotterdam Mall. We had the place to ourselves and were treated to a behind the scenes tour. What an exciting place to hold our first meeting of the year!!! Thanks to everyone who attended.

For those of you who have not yet seen the email, there are some scheduling issues you need to be aware of. First, the February meeting scheduled for this Thursday 2/6/2020 has been cancelled. A construction issue at the firehouse made the room unavailable and we found out late enough that an alternate venue was not possible. Second, from now on meetings (starting in March) will begin at 7pm instead of 7:30. Finally, and this one is subject to change as some details need to be finalized, but the March meeting will probably be at the VIA Aquarium in Rotterdam located in the Rotterdam Mall. More details to follow on that.

Our annual holiday party is coming up this Saturday at 5pm!

The party will be held at Ron Gecsedi’s house at 15 Aspen Heights, Slingerlands, NY 12159.

As usual, in addition to the party, there will be a brief club meeting to hold elections for next year.
Hope to see all of you at the party! And we would love more of your creative homemade appetizers.

Please RSVP to Cindy AND Ron by Wednesday the 4th.

Good morning fellow divers. I know Michelle mentioned this in her email, but I wanted to remind you that at tomorrow's meeting we will have a presentation from Trooper Dave Fisher of the NY State Police. I was fortunate enough to be at the presentation a few years ago by Dave's predecessor and it was fascinating. It would be well worth your time to come and listen to what Trooper Fisher has to tell us. I hope to see many of you Thursday night at 7:30 at the Latham firehouse.
