HaynaYoga

HaynaYoga Rooted in principles of inclusion and intersectionality, Hayna offers affordable, queer-friendly, mixed-ability yoga lessons, classes, and workshops.

I believe that yoga is for everyone. It is my mission to offer an intersectional approach to teaching and practicing yoga. In order for this to be possible, there must be an understanding that social identities and systems overlap. My values as a queer social worker with disabilities inform my yoga practice. Inclusion and intersectionality are foundational to the vision I have as a yoga teacher and are made possible by creativity and community. Everyone should have the opportunity to explore these elements of yoga.

Join me tonight from 7:45-8:45 at Durham Yoga Company for the weekly Community Class. I am looking forward to leading a vinyasa practice focusing on healing. It's safe to say 2016 has been a difficult year for our community, country, and world. Whether or not we recognize the importance of healing, we all eventually encounter the need to heal.

I'm always amazed by the dichotomous relationship I have with rain. One minute I'm enjoying the pitter-patter sound of rain on my roof and the next I'm cursing the sky at the "inconvenience" it's caused.
Come out to Carrboro Yoga Company tonight at 7:30 to explore the dichotomous relationships we have with some asanas (poses), and how we can apply these lessons to other areas of our lives. There will be plenty of modifications offered :) All levels are welcome!

Hey, folks!
It seems like this time of year is always full of transitions, from summer to spring, from a full-time student to full-time employee, moving from one place to another. Whatever changes are taking place in your life, it's normal and understandable to feel a little (or a lot) overwhelmed.
Tonight at Carrboro Yoga Company from 7:30-8:30, we will focus on how to self-soothe. Self-soothing is one of many helpful tools we can use to manage stressful situations and prevent burnout.
I hope to see you there!

Looking for something to do tonight?
Join me at Carrboro Yoga Company for the 7:30-8:30pm Community Class for only $5. I'll be leading an all-levels vinyasa flow that will focus on recognizing the mind-body connection. Sometimes the wires get crossed when the mind sends messages to the body, and vice-versa. Simply acknowledging the connection between thoughts, emotions, and the physical body can be helpful in tolerating distress.
I hope to see you there!

Happy Tuesday!
Henceforth, Tuesdays will be known at . As much as I love any Spanish (vegan) small plate, those aren't the tapas I'm talking about.

What I'm referring to is a type of personal yoga practice that informs the attitudes we assign to ourselves. Tapas literally means to heat the body in a cleansing fashion. The idea here is to "burn away" the things that do not lend to self-discipline. Through practicing physical yoga postures (asanas) that build heat in the body, we are able to gain knowledge of what self-discipline looks like. Tapas is key to focusing our passions and helping us work more efficiently as humans.

If you've taken a class or lesson with me lately, you've learned a bit about tapas and how to refine our enthusiasms through practicing yoga. I'm planning on keeping this idea around a little bit longer, especially as the holidays are approaching, because:
1. It's cold outside and it's nice to feel warm.
2. Holidays bring stress for a lot of folks, so tapas can help us stay focused and calm.

Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post, focusing on tapas, through the website. I'll share it on here :)

Keep on being awesome.
