CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. – Soldier Spotlight: Lt. Col. Justin Gusching

From the operating room to operational planning, Lt. Col. Justin Gusching brings a unique blend of medical expertise and leadership to the 35th Division Sustainment Brigade as the brigade surgeon. During Command Post Exercise 3 and the upcoming Warfighter exercise, Gusching supports medical operations by coordinating personnel and ensuring systems are in place to care for Soldiers in a complex, simulated combat environment. With multiple deployments and years of hands-on surgical experience, he now applies that knowledge at the operational level, contributing to the brigade’s readiness and ability to sustain the fight.

In his civilian career, Gusching is a highly accomplished surgeon, owning and operating his own cosmetic surgery practice for the past six years. After completing his undergraduate studies at Ohio State University, medical school at Ohio University, and a general surgery residency with Cleveland Clinic–South Pointe Hospital, he went on to complete a fellowship in cosmetic surgery. His dedication to excellence extends beyond the operating room, where he also manages his practice’s social media presence, building a strong connection with his patients and community.

Outside of medicine and the military, Gusching describes himself as someone who is always on the move, constantly seeking new challenges. An avid hunter and car enthusiast, he enjoys working on and collecting vehicles, with a personal collection of more than a dozen cars. He also values time with his family, raising two young children alongside his wife. Known among his peers as a wealth of knowledge and capability, his drive to learn and lead continues to make an impact.

Soldiers like Gusching demonstrate that readiness is built through experience, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, both in and out of uniform.
