Most infections don’t start with obvious warning signs, they start quietly.

Every wound goes through stages when bacteria are present:
➡️ Contamination: Bacteria are present, but not growing or causing harm
➡️ Colonization: Bacteria begin to multiply, but the wound can still heal normally
➡️ Local Infection: Bacteria overwhelm the body’s defenses and begin to delay healing
➡️ Spreading/Systemic Infection: Infection moves beyond the wound and can become serious quickly

đźš© Signs your wound may be infected:
• Increasing redness or warmth around the wound
• Swelling or hardening of surrounding tissue
• Pain that is worsening (not improving)
• Drainage that is thick, cloudy, or has an odor
• Fever or chills
• Wound not improving, getting bigger

At Wyoming Wound Care, we specialize in identifying these changes early, before they become serious. Early intervention can make all the difference in healing and limb preservation.

🚫 WOUND CARE MYTH: “Let it dry out” 🚫

Let’s set the record straight—
wounds do NOT heal better when they’re dry.

In fact, letting a wound dry out can slow healing, increase pain, and even raise the risk of infection.

Here’s why 👇

Your skin is your body’s natural moisture barrier + protector. When it’s damaged (like with cuts, ulcers, or burns), your body loses that protection.

🔥 In severe cases like burns, one of the biggest medical concerns is actually dehydration—because the skin can no longer retain fluids.

So what happens when you “let it dry out”?
→ The wound forms a hard scab
→ Healthy cells struggle to move across the surface
→ Healing takes longer
→ Risk of complications increases

đź’ˇ Modern wound care = moist wound healing
Keeping a wound properly hydrated helps:
✔️ Speed up healing
✔️ Reduce scarring
✔️ Lower infection risk
✔️ Support healthy tissue repair

At Wyoming Wound Care, we focus on evidence-based treatment to help your body heal the way it’s designed to.

If your wound isn’t improving within 7–10 days, it’s time to get it checked.

📍 Faster healing starts with the right care.

Got a new wound? What you do first matters 👇

🩹 Wash with soap and water (no harsh scrubbing)
đźš« Skip hydrogen peroxide or alcohol (it slows healing)
đź’§ Use a wound hydrogel to cover it if possible.
🛡️ Cover it + keep it clean

⚠️ Redness, swelling, drainage, or pain? Get it checked.

Small mistakes = bigger problems.
Start smart. Heal faster.

Is pain always a sign that a wound is healing — or could it mean something else? 👀

While some discomfort can occur during the healing process, pain isn’t always a sign that things are improving.

In some cases, pain may indicate:
• Infection developing
• Inflammation in the surrounding tissue
• Increased pressure or swelling
• Reduced blood flow to the area
• Tissue that isn’t healing properly

Pain is the body’s way of communicating that something may need attention.

At Wyoming Wound Care, we look beyond the surface to understand what a wound is telling us so we can treat the underlying issue and help the healing process move forward.

If a wound is becoming more painful or not improving, it may be time to see a wound care specialist.

At Wyoming Wound Care, our mission is to provide medically necessary, expert wound care services to every patient we serve — while recognizing that some individuals and families may experience financial hardship along their healing journey.

The Bart Wilder Memorial Fund was created in honor of Bart Wilder, who received compassionate, specialized care at Wyoming Wound Care. In tribute to Bart’s life and legacy, his family has requested that gifts be made to Wyoming Wound Care Center to help support patients facing medical financial hardship.

This fund allows us to extend care and assistance to those who need it most — ensuring financial barriers do not stand in the way of healing.

Gifts are not tax-deductible.

Thank you for helping us continue to heal the people of our wonderful community.

Just because a wound looks okay on the surface… doesn’t mean it’s healing underneath. 🤯

At Wyoming Wound Care, we often see wounds that appear small, dry, or improving — but beneath the skin, there may be infection, tissue damage, poor circulation, or stalled healing happening out of sight.

This is especially common with:
• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Pressure injuries
• Surgical wounds
• Traumatic wounds

If a wound isn’t improving, is lingering longer than 7–10 days, or starts showing signs like redness, warmth, drainage, odor, or increasing pain — it’s time to have it evaluated by a wound care specialist.

Early, specialized care can prevent complications and help save tissue, limbs, and lives.
