Graduate Certificate Opportunity - Recovery Research!

Addiction recovery support services positively impact individuals, families, and communities. Implementation of recovery support services currently outpaces the science of the field. More rigorous research is needed to inform the content and practice of effective recovery support services.

This 12-hour certificate will include two existing courses in social work, two non-credit bearing workshops on the responsible conduct of clinical/health services research, and two new interprofessional courses designed to enhance student skills in research methods for addiction and recovery research.

The certificate is designed for graduate students, members of regional health systems, addiction treatment facilities, and other community-based organizations (CBOs) that are interested in conducting or participating in recovery research.

Shout Out to UC Recovery Team and the impactful work they are doing in the Upper Cumberland Region !!

This past year, we saw:
• 564 referrals into recovery support
• 548 completed intakes — a 97% completion rate
• More than 3,900 follow-up visits providing continued support and encouragement
• Only 3.4% of justice-involved participants experienced new charges

But behind every statistic is a face, a name, a story—someone who chose to show up when it would’ve been easier to disappear. Someone who kept coming back on hard days. Someone who is rebuilding trust, repairing relationships, and learning how to live differently.

Recovery is not something anyone should have to face alone. It takes support, compassion, resources, and people willing to walk alongside one another through every step of the journey.

When we invest in recovery, we invest in hope. We strengthen families, reduce strain on our systems, and help rebuild a stronger workforce and healthier communities for everyone.

Recovery works — and every success story reminds us why this work matters. 💙

Fentanyl is 50 times more potent than he**in, 100 times more potent than morphine, and as little as two milligrams can be deadly.

It’s often hidden in counterfeit pills made to look like oxycodone, Xanax, and Percocet. One pill can kill!

We Do Recovery!!

In 2023, Adrian walked out of the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution determined to build a new life. He had spent the last 12 years in prison, arrested at 19 after returning home from a deployment to Iraq.

Today, Adrian is thriving. Since his release, he’s gotten married, welcomed his first child, and works full-time as a manufacturing engineer and sales representative. On the side, he transcribes textbooks into Braille - a certification he earned during his time at Riverbend. Adrian credits his success to hard work, humility, and staying open to opportunities. While in prison, he focused on self-improvement by working, participating in programs, saving money, and building positive relationships with mentors in the community. Now, he advocates for second chances, especially for people like himself who were sentenced as teenagers. He hopes to show that sometimes, people just need another opportunity, and that with determination, support, and a strong work ethic – a second chance can lead to lasting success.
