Our Governor has let us down. No 10% or 5% or even 2.5% increase was budgeted for the developmental services system. There will be no support from our legislatures to save our programs and services to meet the needs of individuals with special needs. While we could not be more disappointed with our legislatures we are pleased to announce Desert Health Care District has stepped up to the plate, once again, and yesterday voted to provide funding for our after-school programs. DHCD has provided Ucp Inland Empire with $178,894 over a two year period to support our after-school and summer programs in, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, and Cathedral City. Thank you, Desert Health Care District! Despite this set back with the support of our community Ucp Inland Empire will continue to move forward and do our best for the people we serve!

Sometimes, a glass half full doesn’t cut it. That’s the case for the state budget’s progress vis-a-vis the Lanterman Coalition’s call for a 10 percent hike in funding for services for those with developmental disabilities.

We are happy for the hard working people who will now make a liveable wage. We are sure they worked hard for their victory. NOW it is time for Gov. Brown and our legislatures to provide their partners with 10% ..to be able to manage the changes we are seeing. do not let our workforce down. They have the most important job imaginable.. taking care of our most vunarable Californians.

The Los Angeles City Council voted 14-1 on Tuesday to increase the minimum wage, potentially setting off a wave of similar increases across Southern California.

People with developmental disabilities in California are at risk of losing significant funding. State reimbursement rates have barely budged in two decades while the cost of services has steadily increased. If you think individuals with disabilities need more support, here are three ways to help:
1. Write your local legislator's office and the governor's office.
2. Sign the petition: https://www.change.org/p/california-state-house-california-state-senate-keep-the-promise-to-protect-people-with-developmental-disabilities
3. Share with anyone you know who believe that people with developmental disabilities deserve the best shot at success & happiness that we can give them!

Call, fax, or e-mail today!

IT'S GO TIME! We need you to make phone calls and send faxes to legislators asking them to support Californians with developmental disabilities.
You can send a fax at office supply stores like Office Max or Staples. Or try stores like Mailboxes Etc that ship FedEx and UPS.
You can also send a fax with your computer through free online service like www.efax.com.
But before you do anything, click on this link for contact information and what to say: http://arcanet.org/10-advocacy-plan/keepthepromise.html
If you have other suggestions about sending a fax, please post in the comments section. Thank you!!

California friends - this is so frightening! The Lanterman Coalition is in trouble. Governor Brown is not supporting our call for a 10% increase to support people with special needs. Please help us take action to not lose the 10% emergency funding for Californian's with Developmental Disabilities. Hearings are May 18 & 19. Call your senator and local state assembly represenative before then!

The day just started and we get news TWO of our after-school team members were recognized by the Desert Sands Unified School District for their work as para-educators. The para-educator award is meant to recognize district staff that make a positive impact in their student's lives. Congratulations Jannell Johnson and Thelma Garcia!! We are so proud of the great work you do in our community.
