Happy Father's Day to all of the dads, father figures, and men in our lives!

At Women Eat Well, we recognize that growing in your relationship with food does not occur in isolation from other important or meaningful relationships.

Your father, brother, boyfriend, or husband have likely had an impact on what foods you eat, your view of your body, and your thoughts around food.

If your father, brother, boyfriend, or husband has made a POSITIVE impact on how you see yourself, what you wear, and food freedom, give thanks for his influence in your life. Tell him that you appreciate that about your relationship! It is a privilege to be able to have open dialogue with loved ones about becoming an intuitive eater and respecting your God-given body. Let him know that you cherish his support!

On the other hand, perhaps your father, brother, boyfriend, or husband has had a strong NEGATIVE impact on your relationship with food, trusting your body, or your body image. If this relationship was not so painful, Father's Day might be a lot easier for you. Maybe your father is the one pushing you to diet. Maybe your boyfriend doesn't understand your path towards healing with Intuitive Eating.

But maybe, above and beyond these difficult circumstances, you are beginning to realize that those Food Police voices--the voices trying to keep you in diet culture--are not so powerful over you. You can begin to forgive your brother or husband because he's in the same place you were: caught in diet culture. Perhaps gaining the courage to discuss Intuitive Eating with the man in your life is the first step. He may take longer to embrace it, or he might quickly become a supporter. He might believe that dieting is the answer for many months to come, and yet you can show him compassion because it has been a long road for you, too.

Whether your relationship with men has made your IE journey easier or more difficult, today we are giving thanks to God for the gift of fathers and other men! Join us in celebrating them!

Today’s a beautiful day, but it would have been easy to miss it if I hadn’t take the time to go outside for lunch.

Lately, I have been really busy, which makes it SO hard to even notice how hungry I am! On top of that, I sometimes rush through meals, which means I am distracted when I’m eating.

I found that today’s lunch, uninterrupted from cell phone usage or any work demands, was just what I needed to check-in with my body. I realized the I want to SLOW DOWN more, and rush less. I need to pay attention to how full I’m getting as a result of my food, not just stop when it’s all gone.

For me, the problem has been not getting enough food because I don’t even notice that I’m still hungry! I ate everything I brought for lunch but I realized that I need more. Is this your problem, too? (Note: I bring snacks to compensate in case my lunch doesn’t cut it.)

For others (maybe you??), the problem may be eating a little too much food as a result of not paying attention to fullness. If you have a lot of food in front of you, it can be easy to overeat. We can have problems either way!

Do you think taking time to focus on your eating is important? If so, come up with three reasons WHY you want to slow down during meals, and write them down in your phone. Pull that out the next time you want to hover over your computer during a meal, and remember WHY to are choosing to pause and eat. Your body will thank you, both now and in the future!!!

Social wellness can greatly influence your relationship with food, your mind, and body!

"Ummm....what?!"

Let me explain.

Sometimes, people compare what they are eating to their friends and family. They think: "Ah, she is getting two scoops of [insert meal item here]. I will take one." Or something like that.

This causes problems, of course. It can lead you to not eat what your body needs in order to be nourished.

It can also hinder your relationship with your friend. Can you really be engaged in life-giving, undistracted conversation with that person if your brain is constantly preoccupied with how much you are eating, how much they are eating, or both? Maybe, but maybe not. Or maybe you've never thought about how this type of comparison could be hurting your relationships.

How do you think your friends or family would feel if they knew you were comparing yourself to them? They might feel bad about it and want you to stop.

What would you tell a friend to do if they were struggling with comparing how much or what food they are eating with your food? Would you be honest and kind about how you want them to do what's best for their body? Would you tell them that maybe what you ate earlier that day was a larger amount, so your smaller portion at dinner fit your needs? Would you remind them that their relationship with you won't change based on how they look or their body size?

Perhaps your compassion towards another loved one could be reflected in your self-talk.

Social wellness can impact so many aspects of your relationship with food. Let it be a positive impact and not a negative one!

Did you know? Lavender essential oil is a lovely way to start off a good night's rest!

With Lavender, you can...
💜 rub it in the palms of your hands and breathe in deeply
💜 put some around your neck, like a necklace, right before bed
💜 diffuse it in an essential oil diffuser to help promote lasting sleep during the night
💜 add some to your nighttime tea, if that's part of your routine
