Consider an ENT visit if you have a combination of cold-like symptoms such as nasal congestion, postnasal drip, sore throat and facial pressure or swelling for longer than two weeks. Any new loss of smell and taste, headache, fever, fatigue and bad breath may also be signs of something that requires a follow-up.

With spring allergy season overlapping with other viral illnesses, it’s easy to second-guess symptoms. Remember that allergy symptoms are generally the same from year to year, and any significant change should prompt a follow-up with your allergy expert. If spring has you dealing with congestion and facial pressure, sinusitis may be the reason. Sinusitis, otherwise known as a sinus infection, is caused by swelling and inflammation in the nasal passageways. It can lead to cold-like symptoms including nasal congestion, mucus discharge, facial pain and pressure, fatigue, cough, sore throat, and bad breath.

If symptoms linger or keep returning, an ENT specialist can help identify the cause and treatment options.

Stuffy nose and fatigue this season? It can be hard to tell what’s going on. Allergies and colds can both cause sneezing, a stuffy nose, headache, or fatigue. But allergies often cause itching in the nose, throat, and eyes, while colds do not. Colds can involve a sore throat and body aches, which are absent from allergies.

If you’re unsure and symptoms keep returning, an ENT visit can help you sort out the right next step.
