Happy National Cytotechnology Day to our outstanding Cytology team! This day is celebrated each year on Dr. George Papanicolaou's birthday (the inventor of the Pap smear) and recognizes cytologists' contributions to women's health. The Pap smear is one of the most successful screening tools to detect cervical cancer and precancerous cells. Since the adoption of the Pap smear for routine screening, cervical cancer deaths have dropped more than 70% in the United States.
