Monkey Muffins!!!

In Yoga, we often hear the term "Monkey Mind" used to describe the more impulsive dynamics of the mind. Whether it is rooted in trauma, youthful impulses, chemical deviations, an undisciplined focus, or any other myriad reason, the Monkey mind is rarely a beneficial presence. It can be very disruptive to our lives and relationships.

In the ancient roots of Yoga science, it has long been understood that the ego-mind (our individual sence of self) can exert tremendous disruptive influence to the overall health and balance within our bodies and spirit. The ego-mind is a net positive in the reality of our existence. It keeps us alive by bringing us to what we need to survive and thrive, when it is healthy and disciplined. In our modern Western lives, the ego-mind is often left unchecked to run rampant, constantly seeking more of what we do not actually need. It ever seeks more sources of stimulation and self validation, to the point of inventing stories. Fictions centered around our nature, our relationships, everything we interact with in the external world of our existence.

Whether experiencing events in reality as stories projected onto others or circumstances, or experiencing them as imagined remembering, hopes, or altered reviews of past events, these experiences of the mind become stored within the body as energy blocks. The energy of our physical bodies, within our autonomic nervous system, follows our attention. Our bodies do not know the difference between mind and reality, so what the mind invents, the body experiences. When the attention of our mind is centered on unhealthy objects or fictitious projections, that energy often does not find a healthy avenue of release. It's unlikely that we possess the awareness of how or why to engage is such activities of energetic balance, when we are unable to witness the source of the imbalance as it actually exists.

As our energy repeatedly follows our unhealthy attention, it begins to become stuck within the body when there is no healthy means for it to release and balance. We call these "energy blocks." They can present as stiff muscles or fascia, increasing restriction of normal physical movement, emotional imbalance linked to a physical location in the body, disease, or neurological imbalances.

The Monkey Mind infects us with Monkey Muffins.

The longer these Muffins have to bake within the mental processes that invent them, the more dense they become. They can be difficult to overcome and release without awareness, but the actual process is fairly simple.

Meditation, prayer, mindfulness practices, consciously directed exercise practices (like Yoga), anything that brings the mind into stillness, our thought patterns into awareness, and our body into a better sense of active balance will begin releasing these nasty Muffins.

Our society has become increasingly intolerant and hostile towards the perspectives that do not agree with our own. The driving impetus behind our division is nothing more than greed and the consolidation of power through manipulations of public perception.

A differing viewpoint, instead of being an opportunity for healthy conversation and growth, has been framed as an existential threat by those who only desire to see the toxicity of their experiences mirrored in you.

Reflect back nine years or so to the great blue dress/white dress debate of the interwebs. What did that show you? Perspective is a uniquely individual experience and cannot be judged as "wrong" by a differing perspective of the same experience.

Here is the science of blue dress/white dress:

Color Vision Variability: Individuals have slight variations in their color vision due to differences in their photoreceptors (cones) in the retina. These cones are sensitive to different wavelengths of light (red, green, and blue). Variations in the ratio or sensitivity of these cones can lead to different color perceptions.

Processing in the Brain: The way the brain processes visual information can vary from person to person. This includes how the brain interprets signals from the eyes and integrates them with contextual information, memories, and even emotions.

Age and Health: Age can affect visual perception, as the lens and other parts of the eye change over time. Health conditions, such as cataracts or macular degeneration, can also alter color perception.

Neurological Differences: There are natural variations in the neural pathways and processing centers of the brain. These differences can impact how visual information is interpreted.

Cognitive Factors: Expectations, past experiences, and even cultural differences can influence how we perceive colors. For example, if someone has been exposed to a particular palette more frequently, they might perceive colors differently than someone with different experiences.

Light Adaptation: Our eyes constantly adapt to different light conditions (bright sunlight vs. dim indoor lighting). This adaptation can affect color perception momentarily.

Each individual perspective is only a key hole's view of the greater tapestry that is reality. Be not attached to your lovely key hole, it is quite little after all.

Your perspective is unique to you. Others can share similar perspectives, but none can be crammed into a box of conformity.

So when some noisy agenda requires you to cram into a box... reject it. Or better yet, converse with it, accept it, and bring into the light of awareness that is your perspective. Share the light and shine together.

When your reaction to another requires them to cram into a box to fit your comfort of conformity... reject that reaction and celebrate their unique perspective. The moment you do... you will recognize that your similarities are far more vast than that a few points of difference.

It's the subtle differences of our perspectives that give this tapestry definition.

Your brush stroke in this tapestry, your key hole of perspective isn't just valid... it's necessary! As are all of the other perspectives around you.

Light does not chase away darkness.

Darkness does not smother darkness.

The light and the dark dance together, passionately, giving our universe the complexity of beauty and diversity that could not be experienced without either of them.

Your individual perspective of truth is just one brush stroke that helps paint the face of God.

Meditation in Motion is a fantastic way to release the stresses of the week and just relax into your weekend.

Sunday was a very cool day. It began with a trip to Bare Earth Minerals in Cabe Creek, where we met up with our friend and mentor. We were blessed with lunch and a wonderful moment in their meditation room, and also got to meet and hang out with her amazing husband.😊
From there, we went home to prep for a potluck with some of Amy's YTT tribe members, and later, a sound bath as they conversed into the night. It was quite an amazing dayπŸ™β€β€

We often get tricked into thinking there is only one "right" way to be. The truth is, ALL of our states of being are valid, and each is healthy in it's own right. Embrace each phase of you, no matter how many times it comes back around, embrace it with gratitude for the insight it offers. Then release it for your next state of being. This is how the lessons of our life become more profound, and more deeply appreciated with maturity; not because there was one solitary goal to achieve... But because the subtleties of the larger journey painted such a wondrous tapestry. On this international Yoga day, enjoy your self... In ALL of your forms. πŸ™πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ¦„

Anything you do can be a meditation, if you choose to release the thoughts of the moment, breathe, and relax into whatever you are doing. Dishes, yard work, whatever "mundane" activity you engage in; release any tension around it, or expectation of what comes next, and simply be in the moment. This is how that mile long "todo" list becomes a sanctuary instead of just one more of life stressors. πŸ™πŸ™

Conditions equal judgment. Though not a judgment of what we observe, a judgment of ourselves as a result of our experiences. Can you view a thing as it's truth? It's true nature, absent the filter of your past, or expectations? Try it, mindfully, and see how far you get before your internal conditioning takes over. Practice this mindfulness as often as you can, and notice the shift in how you begin to view things. Notice that they have not changed their nature one bit, you have. That is the truest love. The steady and patient exploration and acceptance of your deeper self. How much true beauty do we miss due to the conditioned filters that are placed over our eyes?

To witness the state of your mind, notice your breath. Are you hyper or stressed? Is your breath quick and shallow? Take note. Connect with it. Slow it down. Then, observe as your mind follows your breath. Notice your body release and relax as your mind connects with the slowing of your breath. Good morning everyone, and Happy Easter!!

I will be teaching my first public Yoga classes this coming week at Spirit of Yoga in Tempe! These are a part of my coursework and as such, are offered free to the public!

This class will focus on connecting with your personal power through the solar plexus Chakra, using meditation, visuization and breath work during the physical practice, and a crystal singing bowl sound bath.

Dates and times as follows, the first two days will be in Bhakti room, the third is to be determined. This will be in person only. Hope to see you there! πŸ™

Tonight's experiment in metaphor. I thought about placing a weedcloth barrier between the cork and the soil, but that's just not how we're made. There are no clean and elegant designs to the things that become formative to who we are. They are there, deep beneath the surface, mixed in with the rest of our foundations and everything else. It's a jumbled mess of stuff that makes our canopy flourish... If we take care of it.

Those are most of the corks from the wine I've drank over the last year, along with a happy little pothos, and some purple and gold Viola mixed in(not in bloom).

This represents both the very serious problem that I nearly engaged fully(and the fissures and flaws in me that it, as a symptom of something else, helped to expose in me), and what I am actively working to do about each facet of them.
I will flourish.

So what will it mean if these plants die?

It will mean that I'm buying new plants and going about the rest of my day... Flourishing!! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‰

I loved her candles when I first saw them, they are soo beautiful, complex, and elegant. I loved them more once I had one in my hand and could see the minute details it contained; the herbs, the flowers, the tiny shards of crystals, and the larger gemstones. And the smell! Pure heaven. πŸ’—πŸ’—
But when I saw this pic... Her elegant little invention area... It's perfect. Its like seeing someones child who looks near identical to the parent, there's just no question this is them. This is such a representation of her inner light. It's that light she puts into each of her creations. Great, and deliberate intent goes into each ingredient of each combination, to meet specific usage goals. The love of her spirit can be felt in each one. I love the logo I made for my business(profile pic). It's both the origin, and the hope of my Yoga. I grew up in the Superstition foothills, their image is a part of my DNA. Prior to receiving their current name in the mid 1800's, the Superstitions we're known by many as The Thunder Mountains. So I chose that name to pay homage to that part of my soul, looking up and seeing their sprawling and ever changing faces always brought me comfort as a child.

The ensō(the circle), I chose because it symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and the void. Only here, I've placed my soul, my mountains, "within the void". One may need a bit of space in order to grow and transform, yeah? πŸ˜‰

In order to grow and transform, one also needs a perspective that allows that transformation to occur. In an effort to create said space in my current moment, I've begun revisiting the Yoga Sutras; the philosophical basis of, and early instructions for how to practice Yoga. In doing so, I was pleasantly reminded of where my tagline came from(we were encouraged to write down our thoughts or interpretations that stood out to us, in the book); Sutra 1.2- Yoga is experienced in that mind which has ceased to identify itself with its vacillating waves of perception.

Yoga being the union of mind, body, and spirit, for a more complete state of being that is in line with what we are created for. Our minds get overwhelmed with the thought noise of our days, and over time, we cease to identify with our source energy(God, the Universe, whatever your particular belief may be). Instead, we identify our nature AS those thoughts, that chaotic mess of noise. This is illusion, and neither who, not what we are. We are divine beings of light having a physical experience. We are a fragment of source, embodied in this realm in order to experience it. The practice of quieting the mind allows us to hear that still small voice, to recognize, once again, our direct connection to source.

On this day, a certain number of year's ago(that shall not be enumerated by this gentleman), a unique piece of the divine embodied itself in order to walk among us. As with all of us, it took a minute to get her bearings. There was sunlight and rain... Wind, storm, cloud, fire... and shadow, but no matter what came... she always found the sunshine again. No matter what circumstances she found herself in, she never failed to make sure that those around her had a little sunshine in their day. She never fails to give her all to her family, to her daughter, or to her friends. No matter how life changes around her... She never fails.

Just over a year and a half ago, my life would be blessed by her presence. We would talk and become friends, she would become a guide for me, a sage, a confidant and best friend. Every day, she brings a smile to my life, and makes the difficult times a little easier to manage. She always has a perspective to make the things seem like not such a big deal.
It was true when we first began talking, and is ever more so now, so it bears repeating... The sentiments and ideas you have shared have helped make navigating my lessons feel more like an adventure in growth, as opposed to a mere consequence. Once again, I thank you for that. Just as I thank the Universe for your presence in this realm, and in my life. What you do here is important, 'Lil Light, it matters, every breath of it. And it is soo very refreshing.

I hope your Birthday is everything you hope for, more than you could wish, and more fulfilling than your needs could ever imagine.
