I, and EquiLateral: The Equine Assisted EMDR Protocol ® , have both aged a bit since I first posted this video to YouTube 14 years ago. The early days of the work, and I was still rocking braces in my late thirties! 😉 😂
This video was made back in the beginning, and since then, my understanding and experiences with trauma and equine assisted psychotherapy has evolved, and deepened even further. And yet, many of the key themes are still true today…
A trauma-informed lens is still essential when we bring equine-assisted interactions to our clients. The past can become present very quickly, and bringing with it dissociation, in its many forms. For those of us who are providing equine assisted interactions within trauma work, are we making conscious choices? Are we still learning? Are we still being willing to continue to grow, evolve, and explore what these clients need from us, and within the equine assisted work? Our clients, our horses, and we, ourselves, need the answer to this question, to be a “yes.”
