Healthcare is expensive and insurance just doesn't cover what it used to. Worse yet, more and more self-care options are no longer covered by insurance and its not hard to figure out if the money we earn is going to groceries or the gym and a massage.

But wait, quality care is not extinct and your self-care shouldn't wait anymore!

This Open Enrollment Season invest in a HSA or a FSA. A way to put aside some of your paycheck tax-free to pay for medical expenses. I'm not just talking co-pays here. Get a massage, a pair of glasses, invest in a private doctor or a physical therapist, pay for those expensive meds... get my drift here. If it's medical and takes a credit card, it likely tasks FSA or HSA as payment.

Best yet, the 2023 allowable limit has risen. Below is an article from Forbes discussing FSA and HSA differences to better understand which option bests fits you and your families self-care needs. This article is written with the 2022 investment amounts, so just know 2023 is simply more.

Take the reins in 2023. Your health is worth it!

Health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts offer two of the best ways to put aside money tax-free for health care expenses. A health savings account (HSA) offers the opportunity to build a stash of cash that can help you pay medical expenses for years or even decades. But not everybod

Discussing Mom Health from a Mom! A message from "A Guide to Your Best Mom Bod" Speaker Michelle Alby, Alby PT

In my nearly 15 years in Physical Therapy, I have treated many women in various stages of their life. I have always been intrigued by the commonality of symptoms from women who have had children whether recent or a while. It was not until I had my own children that I realized there is a reason why we all share the same symptoms! The 4th trimester is all about the beautiful baby, and very little about mom. In the medical community, there is an expectation that mom’s body will restore itself to “normal” by 3 months and very little guidance on how to get there and what to do when the body needs a nudge.

Please join me this Sunday at 9:30am on the front porch of the Briar Chapel Clubhouse for some helpful guidance on the care of your pelvic-core system to treat or prevent the common symptoms of pain, shortness of breath, quick fatigue, leaking, and others. This discussion will be relevant to any woman, even though pregnancy is more detailed.

Please register at the Eventbrite page or reply below so I can try to have enough seating for the event.

Physical Therapists are Like Snowflakes, No Two are the Same!
So you’ve tried Physical Therapy before and it just didn’t work for you, but have you ever wondered why not? Maybe your condition wasn’t ready to be treated by Physical Therapy, or you weren't interested in keeping up with the assigned skills. Maybe there was a compatibility issue with the Therapist or you simply required a different skill set. It’s ok, we get it, but as the saying goes...if at first you don’t succeed, try again!

3 Keys of Physical Therapy

1. Consistency… The body requires feedback over and over to make a change. Physical Therapists use various skills to make a change and then a home program to reinforce the change until the ultimate goal is achieved. If you are unable to do your part, then wait if you can until you can prioritize your health.

2. Compatibility… Physical Therapists are people with different personalities and backgrounds and work in different places. Good communication and comfort is important. Not feeling the vibe, Don’t Give Up! A simple switch can sometimes make all the difference.

3. Skills… Like the rest of the medical community, there are different skills and specialties in Physical Therapy and not every Therapist will treat you the same. Don’t be afraid to ask what else can be done and who provides the service! Physical Therapists will be more than happy to refer you to another specialist.

At AlbyPT, we strive to make sure our services and Physical Therapist are compatible with your needs. We start with an initial phone call at no cost to you to discuss your concerns, your goals, and how Physical Therapy can help. Hopefully we’re a good fit, and will schedule a visit to get to work, always reaching for your goals. If AlbyPT is not your choice, no problem. Your health is the priority and we will assist you in finding the right Physical Therapist for your goals.

What is Physical Therapy?
The human body is a complex web of multiple systems working in harmony for our health and well-being. As we go through life, injury or illness can affect this beautiful web requiring a medical professional to link the pieces back together. A Physical Therapist focuses on Bones, Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments and Soft Tissues, and their integration and effect on other systems.

More simplified, Physical Therapists affect How We Move!

Physical Therapists assess for the limitations that create pain, alter movements, and affect the integrity of other systems. Through various skills and treatments, a Physical Therapist can help you move better, with less pain and fatigue, and guide your body back on its path of wellbeing.
