What you DON’T do is as important as what you DO.
Have you ever promised yourself that you’re going to make a big change in your health & fitness…
And then come up with a list of ALL the things you need to do to make it happen?
Welcome to the club! But you might be missing something!
Equally as important (if not even MORE!) … are the things that you’re NOT going to do anymore. I’m talking about things like:
    •    Eating takeout food more than X times a week
    •    Sitting on the couch (or in the gaming chair!) for X hours every night
    •    Skipping meals
    •    Staying up till midnight (or later) when you have to go to work in the morning
    •    Saying “yes” to commitments you don’t have the time or bandwidth for

Even better? This recipe is so easy, the hardest part is remembering to set aside leftover brewed coffee in the fridge ahead of time!
And yes, before you freak out… there is frozen cauliflower on the ingredients list.

I promise, it’s a great way to sneak veggies into your smoothie and you won’t even taste it.
**NOTE: depending on how thick (or thin) you like your smoothie, you can adjust the amount of milk you add, too!
Feel free to mix this one up. You can swap out the dates for 1 tablespoon of nut butter (almond, PB, etc) instead. The dates = a sweeter smoothie, the nut butter = creamier.
Now for the recipe!
Mocha-Banana Coffee Smoothie
(serves 1)
    •    ¾ cup (180 ml) cold brewed coffee
    •    ¼ cup (30 ml) unsweetened non-dairy milk (more if necessary)
    •    ½ cup (55 g) frozen cauliflower florets
    •    1 medium frozen banana, chopped
    •    ½ Tbsp cacao powder
    •    ½ tsp vanilla
    •    1 scoop chocolate protein powder (optional)
    •    2 soft pitted dates (optional) (if the dates are dry or hardened, soak them in hot water first)
    •    Pinch of sea salt
Place all of the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Make everything you do TODAY aligned toward getting quality sleep TONIGHT!

Getting enough sleep helps:

Set yourself up for sleep success:
• Get sunshine early in the day to help regulate your sleep cycle
• Tire out your body (gently!) during the day so that it’s ready for sleep

Guacamole-Stuffed Hardboiled Eggs
(serves 6)
● 6 large pasture-raised eggs
● 2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
● 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
● 1 ripe tomato, chopped
● 1 clove garlic, minced
● 1 lime, juiced
● salt and pepper to taste
Cook the eggs: Place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover with water. Place the pan on the stove over medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer, then lower the heat so the eggs cook at a gentle simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat, pour out the hot water, and cover the eggs with ice-cold water. Let the eggs stay in the water and when they are cool enough handle, peel them.
Let them cool to room temperature or put them in the refrigerator until they are cold.
Make the guacamole: Mash avocado in a medium serving bowl. Stir in onion, tomato, and garlic. Add the lime juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Cover and place in the fridge for 30 minutes so that the flavors blend.
To assemble: Cut the eggs in half and remove the yolks. Fill each half with about ½ Tbsp of guacamole. Place on a serving plate and enjoy!

🍐Here’s a surprisingly easy dessert that happens to be low in added sugars.
Poached Pears with Dark Chocolate Drizzle
(serves 4)
● 4 ripe pears (use a firm variety like Bosc)
● ¾ cup (180 ml) unsweetened apple juice
● ½ cup (140 ml) red wine
● 3 cinnamon sticks
Spiced Chocolate Sauce
● 2 oz (48 g) dark chocolate, roughly chopped
● ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice mix
Poach the pears: Peel the pears then cut them in half lengthwise, then remove their cores. Place them cut side-down in a saute pan. Pour in the apple juice, wine, and cinnamon sticks.
Place the pan on medium-high heat and bring the liquid to a simmer. Cover and let cook for 5-7 minutes, until cooked through but firm – poke them with a fork to test.
Flip the pears over and cook another 1-2 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove the pears from the pan and onto serving plates.
Place the chocolate and spices in a microwave-safe bowl and place in a microwave. Heat until smooth, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted. Drizzle over the pears to serve. YUM.

Go for a walk after your holiday meal!
Here’s a new healthy tradition to add to your holiday celebrations: going for a short walk within 60-90 minutes of eating dinner!
Studies show that light walking (even for just a few minutes!) can help lower your blood sugar.
Plus, it can help ease your digestion, too!
It will also get you out of the house and breathing some fresh air.
Done regularly, studies show taking a brief walk after eating can help ward off type 2 diabetes.

It really doesn’t get much healthier than this broccoli bisque! This veggie-packed lunch recipe is clever because you make your own stock while cooking it.
TIP: This bisque is 100% plant-based as-is. If you’d rather, replace the nutritional yeast with pecorino or freshly grated parmesan cheese.
“Cheesy” Broccoli Bisque
(makes 2 servings)
    •    1 Tbsp olive oil
    •    1 small yellow onion, chopped
    •    1 small head broccoli, broken into florets
    •    ½ head cauliflower, broken into florets
    •    1 carrot, chopped
    •    ½ tsp basil
    •    1-2 dashes of sea salt
    •    6 cups (1.4 liters) of water
    •    1 Tbsp nutritional yeast
Heat the oil in a stock pot and add the onion, sauteeing until it starts to caramelize. Add the broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, and basil, season with salt, and then cook, stirring constantly, for 3-4 minutes.
Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer until the vegetables are tender, 20-25 minutes.
Carefully drain the vegetables using a colander, making sure to save 2 cups of the cooking fluid.
Place the cooked vegetables into a high-speed blender and add 1 cup of your cooking liquid. Blend until it’s smooth. You may have to work in batches.
If you want a thinner bisque, add more of the saved liquid.
Pour the bisque back into the pot and heat up, stirring in the nutritional yeast. Season with salt and pepper. Serve warm with sprouted grain bread.

Researchers say having someone to be accountable to can help you get MORE results. Scientist tracked over 700 people who were in an online weight loss group. A little over half of them had accountability buddies, while the others didn’t. The group with the accountability buddies lost more inches AND lowered their BMI more than people without.
(The study was published in the Journal of Health Communication.)

This recipe makes a fast & easy breakfast or lunch.
The best part? You can customize these egg muffins any way you want — use frozen or fresh veggies ... or add cooked turkey bacon, beans, or salsa.
Egg Muffins Your Way
(Makes 6 x 2-muffin servings)
    •    12 large eggs
    •    1 medium onion, diced and sauteed.
    •    1 cup cooked veggies (broccoli, green peppers, etc.)
    •    ½ cup (56 g) goat cheese crumbles
    •    Sea salt & fresh pepper, to taste
Preheat oven to 375°F/190ºC. Coat a 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick spray. Set aside.
Crack all of the eggs into a large bowl and whisk until blended. Stir in the onions, veggies, and cheese.
Evenly spoon the egg and veggie mixture into the muffin cups. Place in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes. The muffins are done when a toothpick inserted into their center comes out clean.

We flew out in this helicopter to see the incredible Chaney glacier. Steve (my husband)‘s great grandfather was the botanist on the Sperry exposition into the area of Glacier National Park in 1898, 12 years before the area was a National Park! They named the glacier in his honor.
