— Another rotation around the sun —

I’m not too sure if older always means wiser but that isn’t going to stop me from sharing 5 things I’ve learned as I’ve rotated around the sun these 26 times.

1. This is a fitness and nutrition business and I say eat the cookies/cake/ice cream/ cookie dough if you want it. Enjoying your moments and life is what makes it worth living. Restriction goes against every free nature of our being

2. Following number 1; movement, exercise, lifting weights, walking, swimming, running, sports, etc are good for the soul. Yes, it’s good for your health but mental and emotional health is just as important as physical

3. The workout fueled by negative self talk is the a bad workout. Forcing yourself through your hour plus long gym session because “I’m *insert negative comment about self you’d never say to a friend* and NeEd To WoRkOuT” is not why you should be working out

4. Fruits and vegetables are awesome and make your meals fun and colorful. Have them every meal you can

5. Surround yourself with people that make you smile, clap for you, cheer for you, celebrate you and your wins, and pick you up when your down

I hope all your travels around the sun being you joy and fun and new learnings. Learning and growing is the best part of life💜

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope your day is filled with family, love, and laughter; however that looks during this time. My advice for you today is:

🍪 you can enjoy the hot cocoa, the gingerbread cookies, the candy canes and gumdrops. There are 365 days in the year and if you were to indulge today and even a couple more days as you enjoy some extra holiday cookies and treats, you aren’t going to negate the 360 other days of progress. You wouldn’t even ruin your progress if you had 65 days of enjoying some extra slices of pie/cake/pizza/etc.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👩‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 enjoy being around your family. Engage in conversations and be present. Don’t fixate on what is on your plate or what isn’t or what is on someone else’s or isn’t. Today is about all the good in your life and finding joy in the little things. Life is crazy, being here to celebrate, being healthy, having family members are around you to celebrate with is more important than the calories in that slice of gingerbread you’ve been eyeing.

🥦🍗while enjoying the goodies and holiday staples, try to fill most of your plate with the veggies and the leaner portions of whatever protein you are having. This will fill you up with the more nutrient dense foods, which will allow you to enjoy the goodies while still eating mostly nutritious foods.

🎁You can still give the gift of health and wellness to your friends and family by sharing my website and Instagram and Facebook with them. Showing you support them as they grow in their health and wellness is the best gift you can give and sharing Paiging Progress is helping them get the tools they need for their health and wellness journeys.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Here are some Paiging Progress tips for taking on the holiday, maintaining progress, and being fully present today with your family:

🥔 🧈🥧 you can enjoy the carbs, the butters, the creams/sauces/dressings, and the desserts. There are 365 days in the year and if you were to indulge today and even a couple more days as you enjoy some leftovers you aren’t going to negate the 360 other days of progress.

Today is about being thankful for all the good in your life. Being here to celebrate, being healthy, having whatever family members are around you there to celebrate with is more important than the calories in that slice of pie you’ve been eyeing.

🥦🍗while enjoying the potatoes and the breads and the desserts, try to fill most of your plate with the veggies and the leaner portions of turkey. This will fill you up with the more nutrient dense foods, which will allow you to enjoy the goodies while still eating mostly nutritious foods.

“Change is inevitable, growth is optional”

Having celebrated the 2 year anniversary of Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition I have been thinking a lot about the mission and goals of my business.  These thoughts brought me to this quotation on change and there are some cool things brewing in my mind and announcements coming soon.  Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming announcement.

Beyond the pending announcement having an impact on my business, why am I sharing thoughts on change with you all?   So glad that you asked, I am sharing this because:
▪️ any kind of change is going to be scary and uncomfortable
▪️ when the end goal or result of the change is a something that adds to your life it will be hard to make the change at the start. A health/fitness/wellness/nutritional change in your life that brings health positive results is exactly one of those kinds of change
▪️ leaning into the uncomfortableness of change will teach you so much about you and your character
▪️ having someone to lean on during this process will be beneficial

I am here to help you from start to finish of whatever change you are looking to make in your health and wellness; and I will be there the entire time to encourage and support you on the good days and the bad. DM me and we can set-up a consult chat to answer all your questions about your health and wellness changes 😊

“Change is inevitable, growth is optional” — how you choose to respond to change is up to you.  You can choose to remain the same as things around you change and evolve, or you can choose to change and grow along with whats around you.  Your health and wellness is the same, it should evolve with the seasons of your life💜

What do you need to give up to reach your fitness related goals?

You need to give up the mindset that you need to remove things in order to be successful.

If you want to give something up, give up increasing workouts, while decreasing calories, and cutting out all of the foods you enjoy. It is not going to help you reach your goals. It might work at first, but what it really does is drain you.

Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition has a lifestyle approach to health and wellness. I am not in this to post before and after client photos to attract new clients. I want to give my clients sustainable nutritional and fitness advice and guidance so that they can be successful through every season of their lives. I don’t want to just get clients to meet a 3 month body composition goal through restriction, post the before and after pictures and then just cross my fingers they manage to maintain this transformation long enough to give me credit. That isn’t who I am and it isn’t why I founded Smarter Athlete.

Life is ever changing and fluid; an extremely rigid dietary approach and overly-demanding-with-no-rest fitness plan does not mesh with the unpredictable nature of life. Let Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition help you in your health and wellness journey by allowing you to reach your goals in a way that best fits your lifestyle.

You don’t need to give up all of the things that make you happy and make you, you. There is a need to cut back on certain things in order to reach your goals; but complete removal at the expense of your sanity and happiness is not what working with me at Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition is all about.

The voice in your head is a powerful one. If it constantly runs a loop of negative remarks and is negating everything you do and accomplish you will never see all the amazing things you are and have done.

💜Positive health changes and habits will be downsized because someone else will always appear to be doing more than you. Through Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition I focus on helping my clients implement health positive habits, while navigating any of their negative self-talk.

💜Wellness is more than physical health; it encompasses your mental and emotional health along side your physical health.

🧠If you can repeat negative things about yourself and believe them to be true, you can reverse that self-talk cycle. Repeat positive things about yourself and believe them and watch things change. Believe them because they are actually true, most of the negative things we think about ourselves aren’t true.

💜Take one of these affirmations(or all them if you need them). Repeat them to yourself throughout the day, write them down somewhere you will see often, believe it when you say/read it, and share with your friends and family.

▫️You are all strong enough to get through challenges in front of you

▫️You are all enough as you are. Nothing needs to change to make you whole, you are whole as you are, on your own

▫️You are all deserve a chance to rest, whether from the gym or work or all the to-dos in your calendar. Take that rest

▫️You are all loved, because I have love for you all and I know I’m not the only person in your lives who has love for you

💜Tag someone who might need to hear these today, save this post to look back on when you are having a down day, and comment (if you want) what you are taking with you today.

📲Message me to join the Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition family as my client and begin to journey toward a strong and happy you—both physically and mentally

Less is more

Sometimes less brings you more. In terms of your health/wellness/fitness journey this can mean less workouts, less super high intensity, less restriction, and less stress.

Less workouts:
If you are doing 2 workouts a day, 6-7 days a week, week an “active recovery day” that is a long run or a swim, there is a good chance you are not going to see the body composition changes you are after. This is because you are placing high levels of stress on your body and never giving it the chance it needs to rest and recover. You are circulating a lot of stress hormones, well above the normal levels, which can impact body composition. Less workouts during the week is more in this situation.

Less intensity:
Whoever told you that you need to empty the tank at 100% effort and basically feel like you need to peeled from the floor after every workout has lied to you. I am sorry you have been given this information, but is in untrue. High intensity workouts are great. Feeling like death after ever workout you do all week is not okay. Tough workouts are awesome, but you don’t need them everyday. It is an unsustainable mindset, will not produce the results you are looking for, and can result to injury and burnout. Less intensity is more.

Less restriction:
When you tell a little kid to not do something, there is an almost 100% chance that child will do that thing and ASAP. This applies to you when you tell yourself I can’t eat ‘X’ or drink ‘Y’. Once you tell yourself this and restrict what you eat or drink in terms of can and can’t, all you are going to want to eat and drink are the “off-limits” items. Less restrictions on your dietary choices is more sustainable.

Less of all 3 things above = less stress > Less stress = more happiness > More happiness = more living

Smarter Athlete Fitness and Nutrition is here to help you make the mental shift from more is more to less is more when it comes to your health/wellness/fitness journey.

Let me explain, I’ll keep it short I promise.

You are you, a living being. Unique, complex, always changing.

Food is pretty straight forward. A donut is a donut, pizza is pizza, salad is salad, and broccoli is broccoli. They can be prepared differently, but they are pretty much universally known for being a certain type of food or in a certain food group.

You, as a human, have morality. Food doesn’t not, it isn’t capable of choosing right from wrong. And because of this food can not be good or bad in the way we assign these definitions to people in terms of morality.

Some foods can be better choices in regards to your overall health and longevity than others. But food isn’t inherently good or bad. So having pizza or a salad doesn’t make your good or bad. So you are in fact not what you eat.

Eating a donut doesn’t make you bad, nor does it make you good. It just makes you a person eating a donut.

Long story short= You aren’t what you eat, you are you.

Here is quick look at what I’ve been up to in my absence from regularly posting. While I may have not be supplying my usual informative post for you all I was busy adding more knowledge to my brain to share with you; and was continuing to grow so I can best coach every client I have.

Always a pleasure learning from in this lecture series. Officially completed the series and excited and ready to apply all the cool things I learned!
