✨ Word of the Week: Vestibular ✨
The vestibular system helps us stay balanced, know where our body is, and feel safe while moving. 🚀 When this system isn’t processing efficiently, you might see fear of swings or climbing, frequent falls, motion sensitivity, trouble focusing, or difficulty sitting still. 🍍

Today we went bowling… in a different kind of way 🎳🚀🦀 — with a rocket ship and a crab involved!

This creative obstacle course paired with our “pump-up balloon bowling” targeted so many foundational skills in one fun, silly game:
✨ Balance, postural control and core strength — you can see him holding himself steady on the peanut ball while pushing down the balloon (that’s called dynamic postural control!!)
🧠 Motor planning and coordination — figuring out how to sequence each step of the course
💪 Upper-body strength — powering the pump to launch the rocket
🎯 Aiming and visual-motor integration — lining up the rocket or crab to hit the bowling pins

When play is purposeful, every silly setup becomes a powerful opportunity for growth 💛

Happy Monday!
💛 Kids “borrow” our calm before they learn to calm themselves. That’s the heart of co-regulation—our steady presence helps their big feelings feel safe enough to settle. 🌟

OT is about meeting kids right where they’re at. 💛 Sometimes that means snack time becomes part of the session—and that’s okay! While eating, we still worked on attention, turn-taking, fine motor skills, and self-awareness. Every moment is an opportunity for growth. ✨

🌟 Starting something new! 🌟
Each week we’ll highlight an OT Word of the Week to make those “therapy terms” a little less intimidating and a lot more fun.

This week’s word is PROPRIOCEPTION ✨
👉 It’s our body’s sense of where we are in space.
👉 It helps kids climb stairs without looking at their feet, push the right amount when opening a door, or give the just right hug squeeze.
👉 In OT, we strengthen proprioception through swinging, jumping, climbing, and crashing—helping kids feel calm, coordinated, and confident.

So much hard work can be done with just a silly fun toy!!!

Visual schedules are one of my favorite tools in OT. They help kids know what’s coming next, make transitions smoother, and give them a sense of control over their day. A little structure can go a long way in building confidence, independence, and reducing frustration. 💛

✨ Linear platform swinging isn’t just fun — it’s powerful therapy! 💛 From boosting core strength to improving balance, focus, and emotional regulation, it’s a favorite in our OT sessions! 🍍

Little crayons = big impact! ✏️
They help kiddos develop stronger, more mature grasp patterns—one small crayon at a time. 💛

It doesn’t get much better than this. 🌟💛🍍 A kiddo walked into therapy and told me they’d been planning their obstacle course all week — then built a full gym circuit using almost every gross motor piece we have! Swing Olympics, jungle gym, scooter board, balance challenges… all kid-created, and all incredible 💪🌟
