Not all trauma looks like one big, obvious event.
Sometimes, it looks like years of being misunderstood.
For many neurodivergent individuals, trauma can build slowly over time:
• Being told you’re “too much” or “not enough”
• Feeling overwhelmed in environments others seem to handle just fine
• Working twice as hard just to keep up
• Masking who you are to feel accepted
After a while, it takes a toll.
What gets labeled as “laziness” or “lack of motivation” is often something much deeper - like a nervous system that’s overwhelmed or burned out.
You might not be struggling because you’re not trying hard enough.
You might be struggling because you’ve been trying too hard for too long.
Healing starts with a different question:
Not “What’s wrong with me?”
But “What does my brain need right now?”
If this resonates, we wrote more about it at the link below.
