After never having an issue with my weight I looked in the mirror to find a little belly staring back at me. Where did she come from? I hadn’t changed my diet. Yes, I slacked off on the working out for a bit but geesh, not that much. So where did this uninvited guest to my midsection come from? More important, why is she still around?
When I started my own personal journey, I thought it would be short and sweet since I never had a weight problem. Then I realized for at least a year while the scale showed me a satisfying number I was in trouble. I first went down a rabbit hole of bad advice for weight loss tips only to find my weight was resistant or worse, had increased despite my best intentions.
Then I actually became a bit depressed over the whole situation. I couldn’t understand it. I begin to really dig into sound information. I had to look beyond my nurse practitioner background, especially since we weren’t taught much on nutrition in school. I read literature on the difficulties women face with weight loss after menopause (me) and the constant loss of muscle in the human body starting after 30.
I begin to put what I learned into practice. Slowly the weight began to move. Not just that, I was building muscle and feeling stronger, more energetic. I was excited and happy with where I was headed. Still am! I begin to use what I learned with family, friends, and my patients. To be honest it was a hit or miss. Then I decided I wanted to be able to give them more. Motivate them better. I became certified as a Health Coach and Personal Trainer to have the knowledge to help others better understand their body, help them to make sustainable food choices, assist them with behavior chang, and even design exercise programs to help them reach their goals. More important I know the struggle.
Now my family, friends and patient’s are seeing results. They aren’t afraid to eat carbs! They get it! Come with me along this journey, I’ll share what I have learned. I will teach you to look beyond the scale. This is about so much more than weight loss. You need to take action even before your outward body reveals where you actually are on the inside. I will motivate you to live in the body you truly want.
