How to Be Mindful

Observe, feel, breathe, accept, and absorb are practices that can help you be more mindful of the present moment:

Observe: Take in the world around you and contemplate what's happening

Feel: Allow yourself to feel your emotions without judgment or letting them take control

Breathe: Focus on the pattern and feel of your breath as you inhale and exhale

Accept: Accept where you are at this moment and trust your process of evolution

Absorb: Slow down and absorb every detail of your experiences

5-Finger Breathing is a simple breathing technique that can help you relax and calm your mind and body. It's a multisensory experience that involves focusing on the movement and sensation of your hands touching each other, as well as your breath.

To try 5-Finger Breathing start by holding one of your hands out. Then with your other hand, trace each finger up as you inhale and trace each finger down as you exhale. Then use your other hand and repeat the exercise.

The 5-sense method (or 5-4-3-2-1 technique) uses your five senses — sight 👁️, touch ✋🏽, hearing 👂🏻, smell 👃🏾, and taste 👅 — to redirect your attention away from distressing thoughts and emotions.

By redirecting focus on sensory experiences, this method aims to ground you in the here and now.

Box breathing is a deep breathing technique that can help you slow down your breathing. It works by distracting your mind as you count to four, calming your nervous system, and decreasing stress in your body.

Box breathing is a simple but powerful relaxation technique that can help return your breathing pattern to a relaxed rhythm. It can clear and calm your mind, improving your focus.

Here’s how to practice Box Breathing:
- Breathe in to the 4 count
- Hold your breath for the count of 4
- Breathe out to the 4 count
- Hold for the count of 4
- Repeat 4
