Is it just me who thinks a commercial with someone dancing and singing about reducing their A1C is a bit cray cray? Is diabetes, a disease that 37 million Americans and counting experience, and whose medical costs are an estimated $327 BILLiON dollars and counting now reduced to a jingle? Every time I hear it I cringe.😦

                                                                   #1000 WORDS

So I reading this article and vibing with it’s topic and content, the foodie, health and wellness geek that I am. I even learned something new about the originator of the dreaded body mass index (BMI), Belgian-born Adolphe Quetelet, and this work became the basis for eugenics, who knew? So anyway, I inquire about the writer of the article, who just happens to be the editor-in-chief of Artful Living, a lifestyle magazine that I am familiar with. I’m looking through the magazine, filled with slender, gorgeous men and women and I’m like, ok what was it all for if you are perpetrating the very things you are writing about? Just saying…..

The green Mediterranean diet has been found to be more effective than the original at reducing the amount of visceral fat around internal organs. Visceral fat is belly fat stores in the abdomen and can put you at risk for certain diseases like diabetes.

The diet includes more plant based food and less red meat, and the study included consumption of 28 grams of walnuts — about seven nuts — 3 to 4 cups of green tea, and 100 milligrams of the aquatic plant Wolffia globosa (Mankai) — also known as “duckweed” — in a smoothie or shake each day. All are rich in polyphenols.

Participants reduced their visceral fat by over 14% which is impressive. More evidence of the benefits of how plant-based diets and adding more plant-based foods benefits our health!
