If you eat differently on a cold, rainy day stop and ask yourself why. Are you comforting yourself? Are you warming yourself up?
Just remember when you eat or drink when you are not hungry you risk unwanted weight gain. Figure out a healthy way to comfort yourself or warm yourself up. I like plugging in a heating pad or snuggling with my cat. What could you do instead of eating?

Learning how to process your emotions is a life skill that can eliminate emotional eating. What emotions trigger you to eat? These are the emotions you need to work on. Write out your feelings by doing something like journaling or letter writing. Talk out your feelings with another person you trust. Think through your feelings alone while taking a walk, lying down and sitting in a park.

This is one of my favorite things to do with my clients. Let's identify a feeling that triggers you to eat. Then instead of eating let's start asking ourselves what the purpose of the feeling could be. Is it:
urging you to take some action
reminding you of something
pointing out something
giving you an opportunity to work on something
confirming something
This approach to dealing with feelings is so helpful! Try it and let me know how it goes.

Would you have to eat perfectly to be proud of yourself? Would you have to stay under a certain calorie level? Avoid all sugar? Stay under X carb grams?
Sometimes we place expectations on ourselves that are too hard to achieve. If you feel like you usually fall short or disappoint yourself in regards to eating, you likely are setting an unrealistic bar for yourself.
The answer is to work on defining moderation and misplaced guilt.

This is classic self-sabotage. I tell myself something that results in an action that keeps me from accomplishing my goal. The reasons we self-sabotage are not usually easy to uncover. Instead of beating yourself up, telling yourself you lack discipline or feeling bad for breaking promises to yourself, get to the root of why you self-sabotage. Let me know if I can help. Insomnia and weight gain - what's the connection? A sleep deprived body burns fewer calories at rest (basal metabolic rate is lowered)
Sleep deprivation also messes up our hunger and fullness hormones. This means we may not feel full until we are stuffed. We may not be able to tell when we are hungry vs not hungry.
Sleep is serious business. Consult the national sleep foundation website for tips on improving sleep.
