Myth 1 : Stuttering is psychological
The fact is....while emotional factors may accompany stuttering, stuttering is not primarily a psychological (mental) condition. Stuttering treatment often address attitudes and fears associated with the stuttering behavior.
Myth 2: A person who stutters always stutter
The fact is...stuttering is highly variable. People can have periods of time where their stuttering seems to go away but it returns. Additionally people may stutter more in some situations than others.

There are no prerequistes for using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), whether it is low tech or high tech. Here are four signs that a child may benefit from AAC:

1. Child speaks fewer than 50 words
2. Child has no verbal speech
3. Child is highly unintelligible (difficult to understand)
4. Child speaks mostly nouns (e.g. cookie, juice, milk, dog)

What is AAC?

AAC stands for Alternative and Augmentative Communication - or, more simply put, other ways to communicate besides speaking.
