May Is Stroke Awareness Month

How to tell if someone you know (or you!) might be experiencing a stroke?

Use the acronym
F.A.S.T

FACE - Smile -is one side drooping?

ARMS - Raise both arms - can you raise them equally?

SPEECH - Speak a simple sentence. Is it coherent?

TIME - Call 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY!

Recovery from stroke is dependent on TIME so even if you're unsure.......get help right away!

Trouble Sleeping?

Here are some tips for better sleep!

Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate, colas, and some pain relievers!), as well as alcohol for 4-6 hours before bedtime.

Turn your bedroom into a cozy and well-ventilated (60-75 degrees) sleep-inducing environment

Establish a nightly routine to wind down. Take a bath, read - a book (not on your device!), meditate, and try to avoid stress.

Go to sleep when you're tired! If you're not asleep within 20 minutes get up and go to another room, read or listen to music until you are truly sleepy.

Don't watch the clock! Checking the time if you wake up during the night can increase anxiety making it even harder to fall back to sleep. Face your clock away from you.

Avoid an afternoon nap or keep it at 20 mins.

Exercise early - at least three hours before bedtime.

Watch your fluid intake so you're not interrupting you slumber with trips to the bathroom.

May is Mental Health Month.

Take the time to check in on loved ones. A phone call or text could change the trajectory of someone's life.

Take care of yourself, too!

*If negative thoughts are taking over, reframe them into a positive one.
*Focus on the NOW. You have no control over the past or the present. Learn to breathe and be where you are.
*Make sure you're getting enough sleep. 7-8 hours is ideal for mental clarity and wellbeing.
*Reach out to friends and family. Those connections help build your mental "wealth".
*Eat for fuel and mental health. When you feed your body healthy foods, you're also feeding your brain.
*Make time for YOU. Set aside at LEAST 10-20 minutes a day to be alone. Read a book, listen to music, meditate or go for a walk.

Make these habits a part of your everyday life.
