Happy Mental Health Awareness month!

It is important that you recognize that you are important and to treat yourself that way which means recognizing when you may need a little help.

This month is intended to bring awareness and to make the term, mental health a more comfortable conversation topic and less taboo.

We’ve all heard the sayings,
“it’s okay to not be okay”
“Your mental health is just as important as your physical health”
“Your struggles do not define you”
“You are not your mental illness”

These statements are true and are what make this month so crucial to spreading the importance of mental health.

It’s no secret that FEAR is a crippling tactic used by Satan. When used it renders us useless as we work through the impending thoughts that launch in our minds.

“Am I worthy of Love”

“Can I tackle this task at work?”

“Am I strong enough to overcome my addiction?”

Sound familiar? Psalm 27 talks about some of these insecurities and references our “enemies and foes” coming for the attack, ready to devour. Not very appealing.

But what follows is the psalmist clinging to God. I imagine a child clinging to the leg of a parental figure for comfort. The psalmist recognizes where they can find their strength and comfort in the house of the LORD.
“For He will conceal me there when troubles come; He will hide me in His sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me” (Psalm 27:5-6)

God is always there for us in our times of need. Always. The psalm ends with this verse, “wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)

Sometimes we do have to be patient to find out what He desires us to do. We need to be in constant prayer, seek counsel and remove ourselves from those that will destroy us.

If you are plagued with these feelings and not sure where to turn to please send me a message. If you have loved ones seeking help, share this post. I am available.

Many great verses in the Bible deal with Love but I think what strikes me the most is embracing our uniqueness in God’s eyes because He loves us — every version of us, unconditionally and without fail. In Psalms, David writes that we are knit together in our mother’s womb. In the gospel, Jesus tells the disciples that each hair on their head is numbered and God knows each one. Even so much so that in Ephesians, Paul writes about us being God’s masterpiece. Do you feel that? Do you feel like a masterpiece?

All I can think of is how our fingerprint is unique. No one person shares our fingerprint We are unique treasures, created in God’s image, His greatest creation and masterpiece. I think this Valentine's Day that this is the greatest message to recognize is that our worth, our self-love can be made up in this biblical truth!

How amazing it is to be loved by our creator!

Since everyone in the world is preparing to celebrate Valentine’s Day I wanted to take the time to encourage you all to take some time to embrace self-love but also evaluate your relationship with God.

Do you feel a pull towards something more? Or a void in your heart that you've filled with other things but to no avail.

Maybe you had a relationship with God but it has fallen to the wayside as life stressors consume you.

Your relationship with God is a large proponent of finding your self-love. It is very difficult to shake the negative self-talk that seeps in and attempts to take hold of our minds. God’s truths as laid out in scripture are our weapons and defense.

“If I speak human or angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give away all my possessions, and if I give over my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

🍁 T H A N K S G I V I N G 🍁

This can be a difficult day for some around the US and can serve as a reminder of loved ones who are no longer here, loved ones separated due to work obligations or personal reasons and they sit by themselves on a day that is meant to be shared with others. Some may be battling addiction and be faced with their first holiday tackling recovery.

Remind those you love, appreciate, and care for that you are thinking of them, simply by sharing this post to them. Remind them that you are grateful for them. Sharing this post may provide the encouragement they need. A simple reminder like this can enact change to someone’s outlook on this Thanksgiving day!

Is anyone else feeling the impending stress of the holidays? If you nodded yes, read more below 👇🏼..........
Holidays are supposed to be a joyous time. Time spent with friends and family sharing in the spirit of the holiday. However, our daily stresses play into the typical holiday stress this time of year. We feel the need to stretch out our paychecks to cover gifts that we need to show others that we love or appreciate them. Pretending to be the perfect family when your marriage is on the brink of divorce. Or maybe you spread yourself too thin amidst parties, holiday outings, and family obligations and are reaching your boiling point. Have I hit any bells for you? Well here are 3 areas that can assist in feeling less stress.
1. Getting adequate sleep. Lack of sleep plus increased stress do not bode well for anyone. These two aspects can lead to an increase in depression/anxiety. Pencil in 15-30 minutes of quiet time to allow for personal meditation, go for a walk, listen to music, read a book -- do something just for you. Try to go to bed earlier to get an extra hour of sleep.
2. Don't take on too much. If you are the type of person who cannot say "no" or are a people-pleaser but feel increased stress this time of year; this portion is for you. If you spread yourself too thin you are not helping anyone, including yourself. If you feel yourself to be overwhelmed by numerous events, outings, and parties list them out and identify the ones that bring you the most joy and peace.
3. Surround yourself with loved ones. This step is probably the most difficult for individuals to face. I want to address that a "loved one" does not need to be blood. This can simply be someone who cares for you genuinely. Sometimes being with family can increase stress, so establish boundaries and focus on spending time with those who love, respect, and care for you and your mental health.

If you need to schedule a session, I am still accepting new patients and have availability via telehealth in the evenings and weekends. Call, text or email.
