Cervical Dilation
Cervical dilation refers to the opening of the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus.

Stages of Dilation
1. *Early labor*: 0-3 cm dilated
2. *Active labor*: 4-7 cm dilated
3. *Transition*: 8-10 cm dilated

Importance
Cervical dilation is a crucial process during childbirth, allowing the baby to pass through the birth canal.

Understanding Cervical Dilation During Labour (And Why You Shouldn’t Push Too Early during the process of Labor)

My sister, come close let's talk ..

Labour is not just pain and pushing, it’s process and has stages. Each stage has their own processing but let me tell you from onset of labour till deliver of baby

The most important parts of that process is how your cervix opens, slowly but surely, from 2cm to 10cm before baby can come out.

Most of us never get this explained clearly. Some of us were shouting, ā€œI want to pushā€ when our bodies weren’t ready and this is where wahala start.

So today, I want to explain it in a simple, mother-to-mother way.

First, how do they measure it?

Midwives or doctors check your cervix with gloved fingers.

Each finger width is roughly 1 centimetre. So:

2 fingers = 2cm

4 fingers = 4cm not all fingers they will use to measure 10cm o. Your midwife know how to do it with just two fingers till he or she get 10cm fully dilated

And when the cervix opens enough to fit about 10cm (almost the size of a big orange), baby can come.

Here’s what’s happening at each stage:

2cm ā–¶ļø Early Labour Begins
You’ll feel light contractions, maybe back pain or cramping. It can take hours or even days(mine took 38 hours)for some women to move past this. It’s slow. You can still eat, walk around, or rest.

4cm ā–¶ļø Active Labour Starts
Now things are moving. Contractions get stronger, longer, and more regular. This is not the time to panic, just breathe through each one. Your body is doing what it’s supposed to do.

6cm ā–¶ļøLabour is Picking Up
This is where many women begin to feel tired. The contractions are closer together. You may need more support, maybe even ask for pain relief.

8cm ā–¶ļøThe Transition Stage
This is the most intense part. Contractions feel like they’re not giving you any break. You may cry, shout, or say you’re not doing again. It’s okay. Many women feel like this here. You’re very close.

10cm Fully Dilated
The baby can come out.

"WHEN EXACTLY WILL MY BABY COME?"

Let’s talk about EDD—your Estimated Due Date.

We know pregnancy is 9 months, but how exactly do we calculate it?

Here’s the simple trick:

Use your Last Menstrual Period (LMP):

Take the first day of your last period

Add 7 days

Count 3 months backward

Then add 1 year

Example:
If your last period started on August 10, 2024:

Add 7 days → August 17

Count 3 months back → May 17

Add 1 year → May 17, 2025 is your EDD!

This is called Naegle’s Rule—and it gives you an idea of when baby is likely to arrive.

But remember, EDD is just an estimate.
Only about 5% of babies come exactly on that day.

Most babies come between 37 and 42 weeks, and that’s totally normal.

So don’t panic if baby is ā€œlateā€ or ā€œearly.ā€
Your body and your baby are working on their own perfect timing.

šŸ§µšŸ‘¶ What is a Cervical Cerclage? šŸ‘¶šŸ§µ

A cervical cerclage is a special stitch placed around the cervix to help keep it closed during pregnancy. 🧷🤰
It's usually done to help prevent early labor or miscarriage when the cervix is too weak or short. šŸ›”ļøšŸ’–

🩺 Key points to know:
šŸ”¹ Done around 12–24 weeks of pregnancy ā³
šŸ”¹ Often removed around 36–37 weeks when baby's ready! šŸŽ‰
šŸ”¹ It's a safe and common way to help high-risk pregnancies go full-term. 🌈

If your doctor suggests a cerclage, know it’s a step toward protecting your little one! šŸ’•šŸ‘©ā€šŸ¼

Mothers and mother's to be please take note *Fibroids: What Every Woman Should Know!*

šŸ” If any of these sound familiar, don’t ignore them—get checked by a doctor!

3ļøāƒ£ What Causes Fibroids?

The exact cause is unclear, but experts believe hormones play a role. Risk factors include:
šŸŽÆ Family history (Did mom or grandma have fibroids?)
šŸŽÆ Obesity or being overweight
šŸŽÆ Early puberty (starting periods at a young age)
šŸŽÆ Never having been pregnant

4ļøāƒ£ Treatment: What Are Your Options?

No single cure, but there are ways to manage fibroids:
✨ Hormonal treatments (birth control pills or IUDs to reduce bleeding)
✨ Minimally invasive procedures (shrink or remove fibroids without major surgery)
✨ Surgery (for severe cases, fibroids can be removed—or in extreme cases, a hysterectomy)
✨ Watch & Wait (If they aren’t causing problems, your doctor may just monitor them)

5ļøāƒ£ What Happens If You Ignore Fibroids?

In many cases, they stay the same—but sometimes they grow bigger and cause more problems. Don’t wait! Early detection is key.

🚨 REMEMBER:
āœ… Fibroids are NOT cancerous
āœ… See a doctor if you notice symptoms
āœ… There ARE treatment options to help you feel better!

FETAL CIRCULATION
The fetal physiology is drastically different to the physiology we see in babies after birth. One such difference is the fetal heart and the fetal circulation. In utero, the fetus does not need to rely on its lungs for oxygen. Therefore, there are a number of adaptations the system makes to compensate.

A fetus is surrounded by amniotic fluid and will use the placenta as its source of oxygen and nutrients. While the lungs are developing, they are not functional and provide no oxygenation.

FETAL HEART STRUCTURE
The fetal heart has a number of different structures to direct blood flow:

āœ“The umbilical vein: delivers oxygenated blood from the placenta to the fetus, providing oxygen and nutrients.

āœ“The umbilical arteries: are used to transport deoxygenated blood away from the fetal tissue and back towards the placenta for re-oxygenation.

āœ“The ductus venosus: allows blood from the placenta to bypass the highly demanding, but relatively inactive liver.

āœ“The ductus arteriosus: is the fusion of the primitive pulmonary artery to the aorta, therefore allowing blood to pass straight from the right ventricle into the aorta and bypass the inactive lungs.

āœ“The foramen ovale: creates a shunt between the right atrium and the left atrium so oxygenated blood from the placenta can move to the left atrium. This allows for the oxygenated blood to pass through the left ventricle and into the ascending aorta, oxygenating the brain

Dear Ladies, Let’s Have an Honest Conversation

Topic: Vaginall Discharge & Vaginall Odour

Let me ask you a personal but important question:

When you sit and part your legs, do you notice any unusual odour coming from your vaginall area?

Be truthful with yourself.
Have you ever perceived a smell that made you feel something might be wrong?

What about during s**x?
Does the odour become so strong that it fills the room?

A fishy smell that makes you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable?

Here’s the truth:
The vaginaa has a natural scent that changes slightly during different phases of the menstrual cycle.
That’s perfectly normal.

But if the smell is strong, unpleasant, and fishy, that’s not normal.

If your vaginall odour reminds you of fish or any strong-smelling seafood, it could be a sign of a health issue.

Let’s talk about one of the common causes of this:
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

Bacterial vaginosis is an infection that occurs when the natural balance of bacteria in the vaginaa is disrupted.

The vaginaa contains healthy bacteria called Lactobacillus.
These bacteria help maintain a slightly acidic environment, which protects against harmful bacteria.

However, certain actions can disturb this balance, such as:

Douching

Vaginall steaming (sitting over hot water)

Smoking

Unprotected s**x with multiple partners

Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis include:

Burningg sensation while urinating

Itching around the vaginall area

Thin white, grey, or green discharge

A strong, fishy vaginall odour

How to take care of your vaginall health:
āœ… Wash your vaginall area with clean water only
āŒ Avoid douching and vaginall steaming
āœ… Always wipe from front to back after using the toilet
āœ… See a doctor if you notice anything unusual
āŒ Avoid self-medicating with antibiotics like Ampiclox unless prescribed by a medical professional.

Remember:
Your body often gives you signs when something isn’t right, don’t ignore them!
