"You don't have to be perfect."
Us pitchers think every pitch needs to be perfect. Why? Because we practice hitting the perfect spots.
When you pitch to be perfect, you're pitching with a mindset that is impossible to achieve. Thus, she will always feel that "let down" feeling.
A pitcher will never attain perfection in a game, just like we won't be perfect in life.
Give her room to breathe, room to make mistakes and help her understand from a young age that she doesn't have to be "perfect" in order to do a good job or win.
Help her release from her mind the expectation that she does have to be perfect.
She doesn't have to be and she won't be. And that expectation feels overwhelming to try to achieve because it is indeed, impossible.
It already can feel pretty lonely out there in the circle by yourself, but when you can release the idea of perfection, you'll be able to appreciate your teammates making plays behind you and your coaches have your back even more.
