🤍 Mamas and Families affected by Hurricane Helene who are now living in the Charlotte area, we welcome you to join us for a meetup and donation drive on Sunday, October 13th. 🤍

☕️ Please join us for our first event on October 13th at 10am, located at Starbucks Piper Glen, across from the Four Mile Creek Greenway. Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided, along with local resources and donations from local Charlotte families. Please take this time to connect with other families in the area who have gone through a shared experience, allow the little ones to play and walk the trail for a sense of normalcy and exploration, and to connect with local Charlotte moms and families who are lending a listening ear and a helping hand.

I know there are many, many things to be done. Our hope is that this small event may provide a moment of calm for mamas and little ones who have had their world turned upside down.

🏔️ For families from WNC:
Resource lists will be provided for families to connect with local businesses and practitioners who are providing pro-bono support for WNC families.

Please fill out this form to be connected with local resources that fit your needs, no sign up required.

🤎 For local moms, families, and businesses who want to help:

Please let us know what you are able to provide, and if you know of any addiontal businesses offering free or low cost resources and services.

📦 Donations will be accepted until 10/11 for pickup around Charlotte. Donations may be dropped off during the event and on Saturday 10/12 from 3pm to 5pm at Starbucks Piper Glen. 🤎

Please contact me via Facebook Messenger or email itskatbrk@gmail.com to connect directly with me for donation pickup and drop off. Ashley Buonocore and Taylor Focht will also be accepting donations and providing support for this event!

Below is a document that is kept updated with more information on how to help and resources for those in need:

Thank you everyone for your absolute outpour of love and support for WNC. My family has been personally affected by this storm as well, thankfully my parents were not at their cabin during the storm, but the damage to their community is unfathomable. We hope this small event can bring some much needed positivity to those displaced here in Charlotte. 🤍

Hi everyone! Let me introduce myself-

I am a mama to two beautiful, fierce, little humans. Growing my babies and experiencing pregnancy and the postpartum experience opened my eyes to the many parts and pieces of the birth and postpartum journey- my own journey pushed me towards advocating for families during such a transitional time in the human experience. I believe that support should be accessible and inclusive, not only allowing for anyone to access the support they desire but also creating flexibility in the services offered to fit the unique needs of each family.

My craft is so very close to my heart, and because of that I believe this support should be accessible to everyone. I am a Full-Spectrum Doula, trained in supporting people through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, miscarriage, and abortion. As well as a Childbirth Educator (BADT) and photographer. My practice is proud to offer sliding scale and payment plans as well as free or low cost support for teen parents, low income families, and marginalized groups.

Along with my Doula support, I have recently created The Village CLT (.clt) to offer a free resource and directory to the community, and allow local businesses surrounding pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting to share their stories and services with the community as well. This has been a goal of mine since I began training as a Doula six years ago, and I’m so happy to see it come into fruition.

🤍🌿

Did you know that you can have a doula at any type of birth?

A common misconception is that you have to have a homebirth or “natural” birth to have a doula by your side. Well, that’s not the case!

All births are valid, and doulas are an amazing resource to have on your team- whether you’re in a tub in your living room, waiting to be induced, or in a hospital, doula support is for you.

Although doulas are associated with “natural” births due to the holistic nature of the support we give, most doulas will give you the utmost support and care no matter your place or method of delivery, all we want is to encourage an empowering and positive birth experience, and support you in whatever way needed.

Curious to know more about what a doula does? You’re welcome to chat with me about doula support, or come to one of my meet a doula events!

new space, new energy 🌿

I’m quite anxious when it comes to posting on social media, but I’ve decided to be a bit more candid online and not only post my beautiful work life but also my personal life on here as well- I believe in truly connecting with other humans when I work with their families, and to do so they need to know who I am just as much as I need to know who they are!

So… Hi, I’m Katherine. The chronically anxious doula who has no idea how to run her own social media but LOVES taking photos.

I just got the keys to my new home today (yay for rentals!) and this tiny corner here is my favorite part of the space so far. I plan to fill my home with loving energy from top to bottom.

Tomorrow I’ll be doing a simmer pot to cleanse our new space, and tonight I’ll be caring for a lovely family and coming home to my own messy-haired humans in the morning. 🌿🤍

I hope to share more photos and rambles with you as I branch out of my comfort zone here and on my personal page which I haven’t used in about 2 years (yikes!)
Wish me luck!

"That scar on my belly reminds me of the day you were born.

A magical secret door that opened to let you see the light.

My body did not fail, neither did you.

I kept you safe and we walked this route together.

With a beautiful souvenir to remind me of our journey that has just started 🙏🏻✨"

These are great points to bring up with your partner to prepare for postpartum!

Here are some good topics to talk about with your partner while expecting. You don't really think of these until they happen, so take time now (while you have it 😆)

🧘🏽‍♂️🌟 Upright Birth🌟🧘🏾‍♀️
by Student Midwife Studygram]

Researchers believe that giving birth in an upright position can benefit the mother and baby for several physiologic reasons. Physiologic refers to a healthy body’s normal function. In an upright position, gravity can help bring the baby down and out.
Upright positioning also helps the uterus contract more strongly and efficiently and helps the baby get in a better position to pass through the pelvis.

So very excited to share that I’ve officially begun my journey to be certified as a Full-Spectrum Doula and Childbirth Educator. I am currently trained and practicing full-time as a Birth, Postpartum, and Abortion Doula and Photographer.

I absolutely love what I do and I will always be looking for more ways to learn and grow in my craft. I’m so greatly honored to be training with BADT- an organization who’s values reflect my own, and a community that I’m happy to support and be a part of.

(From their website) BADT is a Black-owned, queer-run doula training organization whose mission is to be socially conscious, culturally appropriate, and action oriented.
“Our vision is to provide accessible, conscious, culturally appropriate, diverse, and action-oriented courses with the framework of care, choice, and justice, towards a better, more equal world.”
